## Pricing

from $0.80 / 1,000 record scrapeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## HomeGuide Local Service Pro Directory Scraper

A contact database for local home-service pros, built from HomeGuide's directory. Search by
state across every trade — plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, landscapers, cleaners, pest
control, movers, and dozens more — and get back business name, phone, website, rating, and
years in business for each listing.

***

### Features

- Covers all 50 states + DC, city by city, trade by trade — the full HomeGuide directory, not a curated sample
- Returns phone number and website for every pro found, pulled from their individual profile page
- Captures rating, review count, years in business, and an identity-verification flag
- Distinguishes the city a pro is listed under from the city/state their business is actually based in
- Narrow a run to specific states, or leave it open to crawl the whole country

***

### Who Uses This Data?

- **Home-services marketplaces and lead platforms** — seed or cross-check a local-pro database without hand-collecting listings trade by trade
- **Marketing and sales teams** — build outreach lists of established local businesses by trade and state
- **Market researchers** — measure trade density, pricing signals, and review activity by city

***

### How It Works

1. You pick one or more states (or leave it blank for the whole country) and a record limit.
2. The actor walks each state's city list, then each city's list of trades offered there (this varies city to city — a larger metro carries more trade categories than a small town).
3. Each trade listing returns the pros found for that city/trade combination (HomeGuide shows up to 30 per combination).
4. Each pro's individual profile page is opened for the full record — phone, website, intro, rating, and verification status.

### Input

```json
{
  "maxItems": 100,
  "states": ["TX", "CA"]
}
```

| Field      | Type            | Default | Description |
|------------|-----------------|---------|-------------|
| `maxItems` | integer         | 10      | Maximum number of pro records to return. |
| `states` | array of string | all | US states to crawl, as 2-letter codes (e.g. `["TX", "CA", "NY"]`). Leave empty to crawl all 50 states + DC. |

#### Resuming a large crawl

Every run emits a `resumeCursor` in its Output. If a large crawl stops before it finishes — because it hit `maxItems`, your spend cap (`maxTotalChargeUsd`), or was aborted — start a new run with **the same input** plus that `resumeCursor` to continue from where it left off. The crawl resumes from the queued work the previous run didn't reach.

- You are **not re-charged** for records the earlier run already delivered.
- Resume within your account's run-retention window — on the free tier, roughly your 10 most recent runs. Once the source run is pruned, its `resumeCursor` is no longer valid.
- `resumeCursor` is opaque — supply it unmodified.

### Output Fields

```json
{
  "business_name": "Details Tile",
  "trade": "Home Remodeling Contractors",
  "city": "Garland",
  "state": "TX",
  "profile_url": "https://homeguide.com/tx/garland/home-remodeling/details-tile-QBF9Ji0TA",
  "phone": "4695738105",
  "rating": 4.8,
  "review_count": 23,
  "years_in_business": 20,
  "identity_verified": false,
  "service_area": "Garland, TX",
  "description": "Founded in 2006, Details Tile is a full-service residential and commercial remodeling company based in Garland, TX...",
  "website": "https://www.detailstc.com/"
}
```

| Field               | Type    | Description |
|---------------------|---------|-------------|
| `business_name`     | string  | Business name. |
| `trade`             | string  | The specific trade/service category this listing appears under. |
| `city` | string | City the pro is listed under (the search city). |
| `state`             | string  | 2-letter state code the pro is listed under. |
| `profile_url`       | string  | The pro's HomeGuide profile page. |
| `phone`             | string  | Business phone number, when listed. |
| `rating`            | number  | Average review rating, 0-5. |
| `review_count`      | integer | Number of reviews. |
| `years_in_business` | integer | Years in business, derived from the company's founding year, when reported. |
| `identity_verified` | boolean | Whether HomeGuide has awarded this pro its identity-verification badge. |
| `service_area` | string | City/state the business is physically based in, when that differs from the listed city — shows the true home base vs. where they serve. |
| `description`       | string  | The pro's self-written intro/bio, when provided. |
| `website`           | string  | Business website, when provided. |

Not every field is populated for every pro — `phone`, `website`, `years_in_business`, and `description` are supplied by the business itself, and a listing that never filled one in on HomeGuide won't have it here either.

### FAQ

#### How do I crawl a specific state?

Pass the two-letter state code(s) in the `states` array — `["TX"]` for Texas, `["TX", "OK"]` for both. Leave it empty and the actor crawls every state.

#### Why is `rating` 0 for some pros?

A rating of 0 with a `review_count` of 0 means the pro hasn't received a review yet on HomeGuide — it's a real listing, not missing data.

#### Why does `service_area` sometimes differ from `city`?

A pro's business can be physically based in one city while taking jobs in another — `city`/`state` reflect where the listing was found; `service_area` reflects the business's actual registered location.

#### Can I get every pro in a state in one run?

Yes — set `states` to the state you want and `maxItems` high enough to cover it. Large states will need multiple runs; use `resumeCursor` to continue where the previous run left off.

### Need More Features?

Need a different field, a filtered subset, or another data point from HomeGuide's directory? [File an issue](https://console.apify.com/actors/issues) or get in touch.

### Why Use This Scraper?

- **Phone and website on every record** — each listing is opened individually so you get real contact details, not just a name and rating.
- **Full trade coverage** — every category HomeGuide lists in a city, not a fixed shortlist of popular trades.
- **National by default** — no state-by-state scraper hunting. Point it at the whole country or narrow to exactly the markets you need.

# Actor input Schema

## `sp_intended_usage` (type: `string`):

What will this data feed? E.g. lead lists, KYB checks, price tracking.

## `sp_improvement_suggestions` (type: `string`):

Provide any feedback or suggestions for improvements.

## `sp_contact` (type: `string`):

We'll personally help with your use case. No spam.

## `resumeCursor` (type: `string`):

Leave empty for a fresh crawl. To CONTINUE a previous run where it stopped — without paying again for records you already received — paste the `resumeCursor` value from that run's Output (the run's OUTPUT key). Resume promptly: the previous run's data expires with your account's retention window (free tier: your ~10 most recent runs).

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of pro records to scrape.

## `states` (type: `array`):

US states to crawl (2-letter codes). Leave empty to crawl all 50 states + DC.
