## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Get every new U.S. trademark application filed by a company, every day, straight from the USPTO's official bulk data (Trademark Daily Applications XML), filtered by Nice class or keyword. One clean row per filing: mark text, classes, goods and services, filing basis, status, filing date, company applicant and a link to the official TSDR record. Bring your own free USPTO API key.

**Not legal advice.** This is a data feed of new filings, not a trademark clearance or similar-mark watch service. Talk to a trademark attorney before relying on it.

*Not affiliated with or endorsed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.*

### What does the trademark filings feed return?

`serialNumber`, `filingDate`, `markText`, `markDrawingCode`, `internationalClasses`, `goodsAndServices`, `filingBasis` (use, intent to use, foreign, Madrid), `statusCode`, `applicantOrganization`, `applicantType` (corporation, LLC, partnership...), `applicantState`, `applicantCountry`, `tsdrUrl`.

### Companies only, no personal data

- Filings by individuals, sole proprietors, estates, trusts or any applicant type that may be a person are skipped, including filings where any co-owner is an individual.
- Attorney names, correspondents, emails, phone numbers and street addresses are never read into the output. Only the applicant company's name (optional, `includeApplicantCompanyName`) and state/country are kept.

### Your USPTO API key: used only for your run

Getting a key requires a USPTO.gov account (with multi-factor login), ID.me identity verification and four Open Data Portal profile fields; see data.uspto.gov/apis/getting-started. Your key is used **only for your run**, sent **only to api.uspto.gov** (never to the signed download link), and **never stored, logged or shown**: not in the dataset, key-value store, logs, status or error messages; echoes are masked.

### USPTO limits respected

At most one daily file download every 2.2 seconds (USPTO allows 5 files per 10 seconds per IP), one download per day-file per run, and a stop as soon as the USPTO reports a download limit. The USPTO caps repeat downloads of the same file per key per year (20 for most files, higher for XML), so schedule it once a day with a 1-day look-back.

### Monitor mode

Turn on **monitor mode** (`monitorMode`) to output only **new** company filings that match your filters. Filings already delivered under the same **monitor name** (`monitorStateName`) are skipped and **not charged**. Use a different monitor name for each watch list. Schedule the Actor once a day with a **1-day look-back** so each USPTO daily file is downloaded once.

### Example output

| markText | internationalClasses | goodsAndServices | applicantType | filingBasis |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ROBOFLUX | 009 | Computer software for robots | Corporation | intent to use (1b) |
| BRIGHT BREW | 030 | Coffee and tea | Limited liability company | intent to use (1b) |

### Pricing

Users on the free Apify plan get up to 100 results per run (then the run stops with a clear status message).

Pay per event: **$0.003 per new filing delivered**. Old-case updates, individual applicants and filtered-out filings are free. Example: watching classes 9 and 42 with a few keywords usually yields tens of filings a day, so about $0.05-0.30 a day; an unfiltered daily feed of a few thousand company filings costs roughly $5-10. Free Apify plan users get up to 100 filings per run.

### FAQ

**Is this a similar-mark watch?** No. It matches exact keywords and classes only. **Why is my key needed?** The USPTO only allows bulk-data downloads with a personal key. **How fresh is it?** The USPTO posts each day's file the next morning.

### Is it legal?

It downloads the USPTO's official public bulk data through its API with your own key, within the USPTO's published limits and terms, and excludes personal data. Not legal advice.

### Use it with Make, Zapier, n8n, or AI agents (Apify MCP)

- **Make:** In Make, add the Apify module, connect your Apify account, then run this Actor (or an Actor task) and map dataset items into your scenario. See [Make integration](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/make).
- **Zapier:** In Zapier, use Apify as a trigger (finished Actor/task run) or action (Run Actor / Run Task / Fetch dataset items). See [Zapier integration](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/zapier).
- **n8n:** Install the Apify node, authenticate, then use **Run an Actor** or **Run an Actor and get dataset**. See [n8n integration](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/n8n).
- **AI agents (Apify MCP):** Connect your MCP client to `https://mcp.apify.com`, then use `search-actors`, `fetch-actor-details`, and `call-actor`. Pull results with `get-dataset-items`. See [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/mcp).
