## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Page Link Checker

Give it page URLs and it finds the broken links: every link on each page is checked for HTTP status and redirects.

### What you get

| Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| `page` | The page the link was found on |
| `link` | The link that was checked |
| `status_code` | HTTP status of the link |
| `is_broken` | True when the link is broken |
| `final_url` | Address after redirects |
| `error` | Error text, for example `HTTP 404` |

Real example (13 Oct 2026): `{"link": "https://www.iana.org/go/rfc6761", "status_code": 200, "final_url": "https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/rfc6761/", "is_broken": false, "error": null, "page": "https://www.iana.org/help/example-domains"}`. Status `401`, `403` and `429` are reported but not marked as broken (the site may just block bots).

### How to use it in 3 steps

1. Paste up to 50 page URLs.
2. Set `maxLinksPerPage` (default 20 for a quick test; up to 300) and turn on `onlyBroken` to get only the bad links.
3. Press Start and fix the rows where `is_broken` is true.

### Pricing

**$0.50 per 1,000 links checked.** Example: 10 pages with 100 links each = 1,000 links = $0.50. Pages that cannot be opened are free, and with `onlyBroken` working links are not charged. Set a maximum cost per run and the robot stops when it is reached.

### Integrations

- **Apify API and webhooks**: start a run and read the dataset from any language.
- **Make, n8n and Zapier**: use the Apify module or node, run this robot and pass the dataset on.
- **Google Sheets**: export the dataset or use the Apify integration to fill a sheet on a schedule.
- **Claude, Cursor and other agents (MCP)**: Use the Apify MCP server (`https://mcp.apify.com?actors=kadro/page-link-checker`) from Claude or Cursor and ask: "Check https://example.com/blog for broken links and list them"

### FAQ

**Does it crawl my whole site?**
No. It reads only the links of the pages you give. To cover a full site, extract its URLs with Sitemap URL Extractor and pass them as pages.

**Why is a link with status 403 not broken?**
Many sites block bots with 403 or 429 while the link works for people, so these are reported but not flagged.

**What is not charged?**
Pages that cannot be opened, and working links when `onlyBroken` is on.

**How fast is it?**
About one link every 0.5 seconds, to be polite to the sites.

**Is it legal?**
It uses a clear User-Agent, low rate and only public http(s) addresses.

### Limitations

- Static HTML only: links added by JavaScript are not seen.
- One link every ~0.5 s, so large runs take time.
- Up to 50 pages and 300 unique links per page.
- Only public http(s) addresses.

# Actor input Schema

## `pages` (type: `array`):

Pages to scan (up to 50), one per line. Every http(s) link found on each page is checked for status and redirects.

## `maxLinksPerPage` (type: `integer`):

Checks at most this many unique links per page (1-300). About one link per 0.5 s, so the default of 20 finishes in under 30 seconds.

## `onlyBroken` (type: `boolean`):

Return only broken links. Working links are skipped and not charged.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "pages": [
    "https://example.org/"
  ],
  "maxLinksPerPage": 20,
  "onlyBroken": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per result.
