## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple App Store Scraper - Apps, Search & Top Charts

Get app details from the **Apple App Store** in any country: search by keyword, look up apps by ID, URL or bundle ID, or take the top free / top paid chart.

The Actor reads Apple's public iTunes Search API and chart feeds. There is no browser, no proxy and no login. A search for one keyword finishes in about a second.

### What you can do with it

- **ASO and keyword research**: see which apps rank for a keyword, in which order, in each country.
- **Competitor tracking**: follow ratings, rating counts, price, version and release notes of a list of apps over time.
- **Market research**: export the top free or top paid chart of a country with full app details.
- **Localization checks**: compare the same app's name, description and rating across countries.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Keywords to search. Results keep the App Store's ranking order. |
| `appIds` | App Store URLs, numeric app IDs or bundle IDs to look up. |
| `chart` | `none`, `top-free` or `top-paid`. |
| `chartLimit` | How many apps to take from the chart (1-100). |
| `countries` | Two-letter country codes. Everything is repeated for each country. Default `us`. |
| `language` | Optional, for example `ja_jp`. Changes texts such as genre names. |
| `maxResultsPerSearch` | Up to 200 per search term. Default 50. |
| `maxItems` | Total limit for the run. `0` means no limit. |

Use any combination of `searchTerms`, `appIds` and `chart`.

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["habit tracker", "meditation"],
  "appIds": ["https://apps.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252", "com.spotify.client"],
  "chart": "top-paid",
  "chartLimit": 25,
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "jp"]
}
```

### Output

One item per app, per country and per query:

```json
{
  "appId": 1438388363,
  "source": "search",
  "query": "habit tracker",
}
```

- `source` is `search`, `lookup` or `chart`. `query` is the search term, the app reference or the chart name.
- `rank` is the position in the search results or in the chart. It is `null` for lookups.
- The same app appears once for every country and query it matches, so you can compare rankings.

### Good to know

- **Reviews are not included.** This Actor returns app details and ratings, not the text of user reviews.
- Apple limits the Search API to roughly 20 requests per minute. Runs with many search terms and countries are slowed down on purpose to stay under that limit: plan for about 3 seconds per search term and country once a run needs more than 15 requests. Lookups are batched, so hundreds of app IDs still need only a few requests.
- A search returns at most 200 apps. That is Apple's limit.
- Apple's chart feed is sometimes slow or briefly unavailable. The Actor retries, and if a chart still cannot be read it is reported in the log while the rest of the run continues.
- An app that is not sold in a country is reported as not found for that country.
- Icons and screenshots are not included. Apple allows its promotional artwork to be used only to promote the apps in the App Store, so this Actor returns app data only.
