## Pricing

from $2.20 / 1,000 result items

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Filing Search (Official API)

Search **SEC EDGAR** filings through the SEC's own endpoints. No scraping, no API key.

### Two modes

**Full-text search** — search the *content* of filings.
Find every filing that mentions a phrase, optionally limited to certain form types and dates.

**Company submissions** — list one company's filing history by ticker or CIK,
including form type, filing date, accession number and document links.

### Why this Actor

- **Official endpoints only.** `efts.sec.gov` full-text search and `data.sec.gov` submissions.
  No HTML page scraping.
- **No API key.** SEC publishes this data openly.
- **Public domain.** U.S. government works.
- **Respects SEC fair access.** Requests are rate limited and carry the contact you provide.
- **Real document links.** Every row includes a working `document_url` and `filing_index_url`.

### Required: your contact

SEC's fair access policy requires automated requests to identify the requester.
Put your name and email in the **Your contact** input, for example:

```
Jane Doe jane@example.com
```

The Actor refuses to run without it. This is sent to SEC in the `User-Agent` header, as SEC asks.

### Output

Full-text mode returns, per filing:

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `company_name`, `ticker`, `cik` | Filer identity |
| `form` | Form type, e.g. `8-K`, `10-K`, `PX14A6G` |
| `filing_date` | `YYYY-MM-DD` |
| `accession_number` | e.g. `0000320193-25-000079` |
| `document_url` | Direct link to the filed document |
| `filing_index_url` | Link to the filing index page |
| `items`, `period_ending`, `document_type` | Filing details when present |
| `sics`, `biz_states`, `inc_states` | Industry and location codes |

Submissions mode adds `report_date`, `acceptance_date_time`, `size`, `is_xbrl`,
`core_type`, `act`, `file_number` and more.

### Examples

Find recent 8-K filings mentioning a merger:

```json
{
  "user_agent": "Jane Doe jane@example.com",
  "mode": "fulltext",
  "query": "merger agreement",
  "forms": ["8-K"],
  "max_results": 100
}
```

Get Apple's filing history:

```json
{
  "user_agent": "Jane Doe jane@example.com",
  "mode": "submissions",
  "ticker": "AAPL",
  "max_results": 200
}
```

### Limits worth knowing

- SEC full-text search caps paging at **10,000 results** per query. Narrow with dates or forms.
- Full-text search covers filings from **2001 onward**; older documents are reachable in
  submissions mode.
- `include_older_filings` fetches archived history files. It is slower and costs extra requests.

### Running locally

```bash
pip install -r requirements.txt
SEC_USER_AGENT="Your Name you@example.com" python -m tests.test_edgar
```

### Attribution

Data from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (EDGAR). This Actor is not affiliated
with or endorsed by the SEC. Filings are submitted by registrants; the SEC does not verify
their accuracy. Nothing here is investment advice.

# Actor input Schema

## `user_agent` (type: `string`):

SEC's fair access policy requires every automated request to identify the requester. Replace this with your own name and email, for example: Jane Doe jane@example.com

## `mode` (type: `string`):

Full-text searches the content of filings. Submissions lists a single company's filing history.

## `query` (type: `string`):

Words or a quoted phrase to find inside filings. Required in full-text mode.

## `forms` (type: `array`):

Limit to these form types, for example 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, 4. Leave empty for all forms.

## `start_date` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Full-text mode only, and must be given together with the end date.

## `end_date` (type: `string`):

YYYY-MM-DD. Full-text mode only, and must be given together with the start date.

## `ticker` (type: `string`):

Stock ticker, for example AAPL. Resolved to a CIK using SEC's official company\_tickers.json.

## `cik` (type: `string`):

SEC company identifier, for example 320193. Use this or a ticker.

## `company_name` (type: `string`):

Identify a company by name instead of a ticker or CIK. Used in submissions mode only - it does not filter full-text results.

## `include_older_filings` (type: `boolean`):

Submissions mode: also fetch the archived history files, not just recent filings. Slower.

## `max_results` (type: `integer`):

You are charged per returned filing. SEC's full-text search caps paging at 10,000 results.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "user_agent": "kdhan Apify Actor kdhan2001@gmail.com",
  "mode": "fulltext",
  "query": "climate risk",
  "forms": [],
  "include_older_filings": false,
  "max_results": 100
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `filings` (type: `string`):

All matching filings with company name, CIK, ticker, form type, filing date, accession number, document URL and filing index URL.
