## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## USPTO Trademark Search

Search US trademark applications and registrations by text, serial number, registration number or owner name. The data comes from the official USPTO bulk data files; there is no scraping and no API key.

Each result tells you whether the mark is live or dead, when it was filed and registered, who owns it, which Nice classes it covers, and links to the official USPTO TSDR page.

### What you can do

- Check whether a name is already taken: search the trademark text as a word, as a prefix, or as an exact match.
- Narrow by Nice class (1 to 45), filing date range, and live / dead / all status.
- Look up a mark directly by serial number or registration number.
- Find marks of an owner by part of the owner name.

### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Words or phrases in the trademark text. |
| `matchMode` | `word` (default), `prefix` or `exact`. |
| `serialNumbers`, `registrationNumbers` | Direct lookups. Status and date filters do not apply to them. |
| `ownerName` | Owner name contains this text. Scans the whole data set (a few seconds). |
| `classes` | Nice classes, for example `[9, 35]`. |
| `status` | `live` (default), `dead` or `all`. |
| `filedAfter`, `filedBefore` | Filing date range, `YYYY-MM-DD`. |
| `maxResultsPerTerm` | 1 to 1000, default 50. Newest filings come first. |

With no input at all the Actor searches for `acme`.

### Output

One row per trademark: `serialNumber`, `registrationNumber`, `markText`, `status` (`code`, `description`, `isLive`), `filingDate`, `registrationDate`, `statusDate`, `abandonmentDate`, `cancellationDate`, `owner` (`name`, `country`, `entityType`), `classes`, `drawingCode`, `matchedTerm`, `usptoUrl`, `dataAsOf`, `disclaimer`. A search term with no match gives `{ "matchedTerm": ..., "found": false }`. All dates are `YYYY-MM-DD`; codes are strings.

`status.isLive` is `null` for the few USPTO status codes that have no clear live / dead meaning; such marks only appear with `status: all`. `owner.entityType` is the raw USPTO entity code.

### Data and limits

- The database is shipped inside the image and refreshed every ~2 weeks. `dataAsOf` on each row shows the date of the newest record.
- It holds basic case data only. It does not include goods and services text, addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers or attorney details.
- Owner names and mark texts are published by the USPTO as filed and can contain whatever the applicant typed.
- Based on USPTO bulk data; not legal advice. Verify in USPTO TSDR before relying on it.
- Word matching splits text at punctuation, so `DON'T` is found by `don t`, not by `dont`. Use `exact` mode for punctuation-insensitive full matches.

### Pricing

Pay-per-event, event name `trademark-record` (one trademark record returned) plus a $0.005 start fee.
Search terms with no match are not charged. Price: **$0.004 per record**.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Words or phrases to search for in the trademark text, for example nike or "blue moon".

## `matchMode` (type: `string`):

word: every word of the term appears as a word in the mark (default). prefix: the last word may be only the beginning of a word. exact: the whole mark equals the term after lower-casing and removing punctuation.

## `serialNumbers` (type: `array`):

Look up applications directly by USPTO serial number, for example 97123456. Status and date filters are not applied to direct lookups.

## `registrationNumbers` (type: `array`):

Look up registrations directly by registration number, for example 5123456. Status and date filters are not applied to direct lookups.

## `ownerName` (type: `string`):

Keep only marks whose owner name contains this text (case-insensitive, at least 2 characters). Without trademark text, lists the newest marks of matching owners. Owner search scans the whole data set and can take a few seconds.

## `classes` (type: `array`):

Keep only marks registered in at least one of these classes (integers 1 to 45), for example \[9, 35].

## `status` (type: `string`):

live: pending or registered. dead: abandoned, cancelled or expired. all: everything, including marks whose status code has no clear live/dead meaning.

## `filedAfter` (type: `string`):

Filing date lower bound, YYYY-MM-DD.

## `filedBefore` (type: `string`):

Filing date upper bound, YYYY-MM-DD.

## `maxResultsPerTerm` (type: `integer`):

Upper limit of trademarks returned for each search term. Newest filings come first.
