## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## ATF Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) Verification Data

Verify Federal Firearms Licensee status in bulk from the official ATF monthly listing — every active FFL in the United States, from the federal source, with a monthly archive back to 2021.

### Who this is for

FFL-transfer marketplaces and shipping platforms confirming a receiving dealer is licensed. Distributors and manufacturers prospecting dealers by state and licence type. Insurers and lenders underwriting firearms businesses. Compliance teams checking a counterparty's licence class before a transfer.

### What you get

One record per licence: the full FFL number (`license_number`, in ATF's region-district-county-type-expiry-sequence form), the licensee as `full_name` and the trade name as `business_name`, `credential` decoded from ATF's licence-type code (dealer, pawnbroker, manufacturer, importer, and the destructive-device classes), the premise `city`, `state` and `zip_code`, the mailing address, and the listed phone.

`status` is `active` for every record — presence in the month's listing *is* the licence being active — and `status_basis` says exactly that. ATF's two-character expiration code is preserved as `expiration_code` and decoded into `expiration_date` (**MM/DD/YYYY**, with an `_iso` twin), so `expires_in_days` and `is_expiring_soon` work the same way they do across the whole catalogue.

`listing_month` records which monthly file the record came from.

### One schema across every source

Every roster in this catalogue delivers **the same columns, in the same order, meaning the same thing**. Names arrive SHOUTING; they leave in proper case, with `name_raw` holding the source's exact rendering. Dates are **MM/DD/YYYY**, with an `_iso` twin for spreadsheets and imports.

Full column reference: `docs/SCHEMA.md` in the source repository.

### Coverage

National — all 50 states, DC and the territories — from a single federal source. The listing is refreshed monthly by ATF; this Actor fetches the latest month by default, or any month back to 2021 when you set `month` and `year`. Collectors of curios and relics (type 03) are hobbyists rather than businesses and are excluded unless `includeCollectors` is on.

### Input

- `states` — premise states; empty for the whole country.
- `licenseTypes` — ATF codes (01 dealer, 02 pawnbroker, 03 collector, 06 ammunition manufacturer, 07 firearms manufacturer, 08 importer, 09/10/11 destructive-device classes); empty for all.
- `includeCollectors` — include type 03; off by default.
- `month`, `year` — a specific listing; empty for the latest.
- `maxRecords` — hard cap; the run also honours your Apify maximum-charge setting.

### Data source & fair use

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives publishes the complete listing of active FFLs each month as a public file. This Actor reads that file directly — no scraping, no lookups, no forms. The listing is a US Government work, published for exactly this use. No personal data is added beyond what ATF itself prints.

### Pricing

Pay per record delivered: **$2.50 per 1,000 records**, plus a nominal start fee. Filters run before delivery, so you are never charged for a record you did not ask for.
