## Pricing

Pay per event

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Chrome Web Store Scraper: Extension Users, Ratings, Versions & Permissions

Get **Chrome Web Store extension data** as JSON, CSV or Excel: **users, rating, rating count, version, last updated date, size, category and category rank, Featured badge, publisher, and the permissions and host permissions** each extension requests. Track competitors, find fast growing extensions, or audit risky permissions. Monitor mode tells you when an extension ships a new version, gains users, or **adds new permissions**.

The Actor only reads pages the store allows in its robots.txt: public detail pages, category pages and the official sitemap. It does not use the disallowed search and review pages, needs no login, and runs without a browser.

### For AI agents (MCP / API) quick reference

- **Use when:** you need facts about Chrome extensions (installs, rating, version, update date, permissions, category rank) for given extension IDs or URLs, for a category, or for extensions whose name contains a keyword.
- **Don't use for:** extension reviews text, or Firefox and Edge add-ons.
- **Minimal input:** `{"extensions": ["kbfnbcaeplbcioakkpcpgfkobkghlhen"]}` or `{"categories": ["productivity/workflow"], "maxItems": 30}` or `{"sitemapKeywords": ["ai writing"], "minUsers": 1000, "maxItems": 50}`.
- **Output:** one item per extension: `extensionId`, `name`, `url`, `users`, `rating`, `ratingCount`, `version`, `lastUpdated`, `sizeBytes`, `category`, `categoryRanks`, `featured`, `publisher`, `manifestVersion`, `permissions`, `hostPermissions`, `optionalPermissions`, `contentScriptMatches`, `changesSinceLastRun`.
- **Price:** $0.001 per run + **$0.003 per extension**. 30 extensions cost about $0.09. Pay per event only, limited permissions, so agentic payments (x402, Skyfire, Apify AGI token) work.
- **MCP:** add `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=kempt_horizon_yzk/chrome-web-store-scraper` to your MCP client.

### What can it do?

- 🧩 **Extension details**: name, short description, users, rating, rating count, version, last updated, size, languages, category, Featured badge, EU trader status, publisher (business name only), icon
- 🔐 **Permissions from the manifest**: API permissions, host permissions, optional permissions, content script match patterns, manifest version
- 🏆 **Category rankings**: every extension listed on a category page with its position
- 🔎 **Keyword discovery** through the official sitemap (about 400,000 listings), matching words in the extension's store URL name
- 🎯 **Filters**: min and max users, min rating, updated within N days, required permissions. Filtered items are never charged.
- 🔁 **Monitor mode**: only new or changed extensions, with a `changesSinceLastRun` diff covering version, users, rating, rating count and **newly added permissions**
- 🛡️ Retries with backoff, low concurrency, optional proxy

### Who uses it?

Extension developers watching competitors, security and IT teams auditing what extensions request, investors and M\&A scouts looking for extensions with large user bases, and marketers researching the browser extension market.

### How much does it cost?

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Actor start | $0.001 |
| Extension | **$0.003** |

1,000 extensions cost $3. Set a **maximum cost per run** and the Actor stops cleanly.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**. The example input (two extensions and the Workflow category, 10 results) returns data in a few seconds.
2. Add extension URLs or IDs, categories, or keywords.
3. Add filters if you like, then click **Start**.
4. Download JSON, CSV or Excel, or use the API. For alerts, enable **Monitor mode** and a daily **Schedule**.

### FAQ

**Why no keyword search page?** The Chrome Web Store robots.txt disallows `/search`, so this Actor uses the official sitemap for discovery instead.

**Does it return developer emails?** No. It returns the publisher business name only and no personal contact data.

**Why is `users` a round number?** The store shows rounded counts (for example 41,000,000).

Category paths, e.g. productivity/workflow, productivity/developer, productivity/communication, productivity/education, productivity/tools, lifestyle/shopping, lifestyle/social, lifestyle/entertainment, make_chrome_yours/privacy, make_chrome_yours/accessibility, make_chrome_yours/functionality. Returns the extensions the category page lists (about 30), with their rank.

## `sitemapKeywords` (type: `array`):

Optional. Finds extensions whose store URL name contains all words of a keyword, e.g. "ai writing", by reading the official Chrome Web Store sitemap (the store's search pages are disallowed by robots.txt, so this Actor does not use them).

## `maxSitemapShards` (type: `integer`):

The sitemap has about 44 shards of about 9,000 listings each. Fewer shards = faster, less complete.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum extension records to save (and pay for).

## `minUsers` (type: `integer`):
