## Open Food Facts Price Lookup

Unaffiliated, third-party Actor. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or
sponsored by Open Food Facts. Built on the Open Prices project
(prices.openfoodfacts.org), released under the Open Database License
(ODbL) -- reuse, including commercial reuse, is permitted with attribution:
[Open Prices data](https://prices.openfoodfacts.org), ODbL-licensed.

Give it product barcodes (EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A or GTIN-14); get back the
most recently recorded retail price for each one -- product name, brand(s),
category, price, currency, whether it was a discounted price, the
observation date, and the retail location it was seen at (store name,
chain, city, country, coordinates). Sourced entirely from Open Prices' own
public API, a single unauthenticated GET per barcode, no browser, no login.

Coverage is real but partial: Open Prices is a community-submitted
database, currently concentrated in France and Europe. A barcode with no
recorded price returns nothing and is not billed -- it does not mean the
product doesn't exist, only that nobody has recorded a price for it here
yet.

This Actor deliberately does not return the contributor's account handle
(the `owner` field on a price submission), the account that first added the
product to Open Food Facts (`creator`), any receipt or price-tag photo
(`proof`), or free-text comments a contributor may have left. Those identify
a person's account and contribution history, not the product or its price,
and none is needed to answer "what did this barcode cost, where, and when."
