## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Forex Factory Market & Broker Spreads

Clean, structured quotes from [Forex Factory](https://www.forexfactory.com) — the live bid/ask every broker publishes for a pair, in one record per broker. Compare spreads across 100+ brokers, or snapshot the market for any currency or crypto pair. Pure HTTP: no browser, no login, no proxy.

### What you get

One record per broker per pair:

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `instrument` | The pair, e.g. `EUR/USD` |
| `broker` | The broker's code on Forex Factory, e.g. `ADM`, `CMC`, `IC Markets` |
| `bid` / `ask` | The broker's latest published prices |
| `spread` | `ask - bid` in the pair's native units (0.00003 = 0.3 pips on EURUSD) |
| `timestamp` | When that quote was published (ISO 8601, UTC) |
| `ageMinutes` | How old the quote is — brokers that stopped reporting keep their last price, so this tells you who is live |

Records are sorted by spread, tightest first.

### How to use

**Currency pairs** — put pairs into *Currency pairs*, one per line: `EURUSD`, `GBPUSD`, `USDJPY`, exotics like `USDTRY` or `USDZAR`, crypto `BTCUSD` / `ETHUSD`. Forex majors and exotics carry ~100-160 brokers each; crypto pairs ~30-40.

**Only quotes newer than (hours)** — set e.g. `24` for a daily snapshot that keeps only brokers actually reporting in the last day. Leave `0` to keep everything, including stale quotes.

Leave every input empty for a default EURUSD sample.

### Example output

```json
{
  "type": "quote",
  "instrument": "EUR/USD",
  "broker": "ADM",
  "bid": 1.12046,
  "ask": 1.12046,
  "spread": 0.0,
  "timestamp": "2026-10-12T07:29:24+00:00",
  "ageMinutes": 2
}
```

### Typical runs

- Broker spread comparison — one pair, `maxAgeHours` 24, run daily to see which brokers are tightest today.
- Market snapshot — all majors at once for a pricing reference.
- Broker monitoring — a watchlist of pairs, tracking which brokers report and which go stale.

### Notes

- Indices and commodities (US30, XAUUSD) are not available on Forex Factory's market pages — currency and crypto pairs only.
- Quotes come from the same page Forex Factory's own spread comparison uses; values are passed through unchanged.
- Runs are one request per pair, throttled and parallelised — a handful of pairs takes seconds.

### Local development

```bash
pip install -r requirements.txt
python3 -m src --pairs EURUSD,GBPUSD --max-age 24
python3 -m src --pairs BTCUSD --json
```

# Actor input Schema

## `pairs` (type: `array`):

Pairs to scrape, one per line, e.g. EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, USDTRY, BTCUSD. Forex majors and exotics carry ~100-160 brokers each, crypto pairs ~30-40. Leave empty for EURUSD.

## `maxAgeHours` (type: `integer`):

Brokers that stopped reporting keep their last quote in the page; set this to drop quotes older than N hours (e.g. 24 for a daily snapshot of active brokers). 0 = keep everything.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "pairs": [
    "EURUSD"
  ],
  "maxAgeHours": 0
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Records stored in the run's default dataset

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "pairs": [
        "EURUSD"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("kibaale/forex-factory-market-scraper").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
