## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Transit Safety & Security Events (FTA National Transit Database)

Search **116,000+ official US public-transit incidents** reported to the Federal Transit Administration's National Transit Database (NTD): bus crashes, subway and light-rail collisions, derailments, assaults on operators, robberies, fires, injuries and fatalities. Filter by **state, transit agency, mode, event type, date and casualties**, or get a **grouped summary** in one click.

No login, no proxy, no scraping. The data is US government public domain from [data.transportation.gov](https://data.transportation.gov/d/9ivb-8ae9).

### Who uses it

- **Personal-injury and transit-accident lawyers**: find prior incidents for an agency, route area or mode.
- **Insurers and risk analysts**: compare agencies by collisions, injuries and deaths.
- **Journalists and researchers**: transit crime and safety trends, operator-assault stories.
- **Transit agencies and consultants**: benchmark against peers.

### Example inputs

- All Chicago Transit Authority bus collisions in 2025: `agencyContains: ["Chicago Transit"]`, `modes: ["Bus"]`, `dateFrom: 2025-01-01`
- Assaults on operators in New York: `states: ["NY"]`, `eventTypes: ["Physical Assault on an Operator"]`
- Deaths by agency, nationwide: `outputMode: summary`, `groupBy: agency`, `onlyWithFatalities: true`

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$2.50 per 1,000 incident records**, $0.01 per summary row. No monthly fee. Set a spending limit and the run stops cleanly at it.

### Notes

- Data covers major events reported by NTD reporters from January 2014 through mid-2026 and is updated by FTA monthly (the newest events are usually a few weeks to months old).
- **Fatality counts include suicides** (about 880 deaths are event type `Suicide`). Filter with `eventTypes` to exclude them.
- Each record has a link to the official dataset. Narratives have personal details redacted by the FTA. Addresses are approximate.
- State filter uses the incident address.

### Data source and legal

US DOT / FTA National Transit Database, Major Safety & Security Events, public domain US government data. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FTA or any transit agency. Provided as is, without warranty; verify against the source for legal or insurance use.
