## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper

Collect Google News RSS articles from search queries, top stories, and topic feeds. Google News returns headlines, publisher names, publication dates, descriptions, and Google article links. Optionally resolve the original publisher URL.

### Use cases

- Media monitoring and brand or executive mentions
- PR coverage tracking
- Finance news signals and market research
- Topic feeds for AI agents, MCP services, and RAG pipelines
- Search feeds using Google operators such as `site:`, quoted phrases, and `when:`

### Input

```json
{
  "searchQueries": ["artificial intelligence", "site:reuters.com \"AI chips\""],
  "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY", "BUSINESS"],
  "country": "US",
  "timeRange": "1d",
  "decodeUrls": false,
  "maxItemsPerSource": 20
}
```

Choose one of 47 verified Google News editions (US, UK, India, Germany, France, Brazil, Japan, Israel, Australia, Canada, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and more). The language follows the edition (for example Germany = German, Mexico = Spanish). `TOP` selects top stories; topic feeds also include WORLD, NATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, SCIENCE, and HEALTH. Search queries accept Google operators as written. `timeRange` appends `when:1h`, `when:1d`, `when:7d`, or `when:30d` to each search query; `any` leaves it alone.

### Output

Each article is one charged `article-result` row. Summary and error rows are free. Duplicate Google links are removed across the run.

```json
{
  "type": "article",
  "title": "Nvidia, Oracle, CoreWeave and other AI stocks sink on OpenAI revenue report",
  "source": "CNBC",
  "sourceUrl": "https://www.cnbc.com",
  "link": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiggFBVV95cUxPOG8tazVEa2hVcWdlYU1pZk53QzNMLU1lVWk4c2U0NFRvMk5IMnJYMWdTZERsSHhkYWo1dkRlczFWcGdwRHJfbFJzQ09kUEo1elE4YVRQZWp0Z3lVbU1MUjJIVV9lbFFHbUxPUlJhUER6NzgwdjVFTHM4UVhGZ3pNd3pR0gGHAUFVX3lxTE9nLWxxNlZwaWJicm9JSVBTT3lHeElLRDJ2QklRT2FkelA0eXZSNDlyRWh6dWlhNFloNzZfOUtid3dmcEJsTGNNcTE5VnhEbURXWWo0UGktcmhXNV8tS1lHYndTellPVm00RmFpeFVLTnBqNENtUUtBdHV2NVdPU0Jnb1A1NnpzSQ?oc=5",
  "url": null,
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-08T18:14:54.000Z",
  "description": "Nvidia, Oracle, CoreWeave and other AI stocks sink on OpenAI revenue report CNBC",
  "query": "nvidia",
  "topic": null,
  "country": "US",
  "language": "en",
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-09T12:00:00.000Z"
}
```

This is a trimmed row parsed from a real Google News RSS item. When `decodeUrls` is enabled, `url` contains the publisher URL if Google resolves it; otherwise it remains `null`.

### Price and limits

**Price: $1.00 per 1,000 articles.** An article row is one `article-result` event. Google News RSS generally returns about 100 items per query or feed; actual counts vary by query and edition. `maxItemsPerSource` defaults to 100 and is capped at 1,000. Search and topic results share a run-wide link dedupe. Decoding makes extra requests to Google and is slower; it runs with at most two requests concurrently and retries HTTP 429/5xx responses.

### FAQ

**How fresh are the results?** Google News RSS reflects Google's feed at scrape time. The feed's publication timestamps are supplied by publishers and can lag or be absent.

**How many articles are returned per query?** Google News usually returns around 100 RSS items. Set `maxItemsPerSource` to limit how many are kept; a smaller feed or duplicate links can produce fewer rows.

**What does URL decoding do?** Google article links are retained in `link`. With decoding enabled, the actor reads Google's article page signature and calls its batch endpoint to resolve the publisher URL into `url`. Google can rate-limit these requests, in which case `url` stays `null`.

**Can queries use Google search operators?** Yes. Use `site:`, quoted phrases, and other Google News search syntax directly. The selected time range adds a `when:` operator to the end.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Google News RSS search expressions. Google operators such as when:1d, site:example.com, and quoted phrases pass through unchanged.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Optional topic feeds: TOP (top stories), WORLD, NATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, SCIENCE, HEALTH.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Google News edition (country). The language follows the edition, e.g. Germany = German, Mexico = Spanish, Japan = Japanese.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Append Google's when: operator to each search query; this does not affect topic feeds.

## `decodeUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Resolve Google News article links to publisher URLs using Google's batchexecute endpoint. Adds requests and can be slower.

## `maxItemsPerSource` (type: `integer`):

Maximum RSS articles to keep from each search query or topic feed (Google typically returns about 100).
