## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Sitemap URL Extractor: every page URL on any website

**Get the full list of pages a website publishes in its sitemaps**, with last-modified dates, in seconds. Give it a domain. It finds the sitemaps itself (robots.txt, sitemap indexes, WordPress, `.xml.gz`), follows every nested sitemap, removes duplicates, and returns clean rows.

- **Just type the domain:** `duolingo.com`, `shopify.com`. Or paste a direct sitemap link.
- **Nested indexes and gzip handled** automatically
- **Filters:** only URLs containing `/blog/`, skip `/tag/`, or only pages **changed in the last N days**. You pay only for URLs you keep.
- **Fast and light:** reads the sitemap files websites publish for exactly this purpose. No page crawling, no proxies.

### Sample output (real, duolingo.com, Oct 2026)

```json
{
  "type": "url",
  "website": "duolingo.com",
  "url": "https://www.duolingo.com/chess",
  "lastmod": "",
  "changefreq": "weekly",
  "priority": "0.8",
  "sitemap": "https://www.duolingo.com/sitemap_courses.xml"
}
```

In one run: duolingo.com returned 103 URLs from 4 sitemaps, and shopify.com's blog filter (`/blog/`) returned 10 URLs changed this week.

### How to use

1. Add **websites**: domains, homepages, or sitemap links.
2. Optional: **only URLs containing** / **skip URLs containing**, **modified within N days**, **max URLs per website**.
3. Run, then export from the Dataset tab (JSON, CSV, Excel, or API).

#### Sample input

```json
{ "websites": ["shopify.com"], "includeUrlsContaining": ["/blog/"], "modifiedWithinDays": 7 }
```

### Pricing

- **$0.0004 per URL** ($0.40 per 1,000 URLs)
- **No start fee.** Sites without a sitemap cost nothing, and URLs removed by your filters cost nothing.

### Who it's for

- **SEO audits:** compare what's in the sitemap with what's indexed and find orphan or stale pages
- **Content inventories and migrations:** a full page list before a redesign
- **Competitor monitoring:** schedule it with "modified within 1 day" to see what a competitor publishes or updates
- **Crawlers, RAG, and AI agents:** a clean list of URLs to fetch, without crawling blindly
- **Developers:** feed URLs into other Apify Actors (e.g. a content crawler)

### FAQ

**What if a site has no sitemap?** You'll get an error row and no charge.
**Does it visit every page?** No. It only reads the sitemap files, which is why it's fast and cheap. Use the URLs as input to a crawler if you need page content.
**Huge sites?** Use "max URLs per website" to cap cost. Large news sites can list millions of URLs.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Domains ("apify.com"), homepages, or direct sitemap links (…/sitemap.xml, .xml.gz). Sitemaps are found automatically through robots.txt and common locations.

## `includeUrlsContaining` (type: `array`):

Keep URLs that contain any of these, e.g. /blog/, /products/. Leave empty for all URLs.

## `excludeUrlsContaining` (type: `array`):

Drop URLs that contain any of these, e.g. /tag/, ?page=.

## `modifiedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Uses each URL's lastmod date from the sitemap. URLs without a date are skipped when this is set. 0 = any date.

## `maxUrlsPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Caps cost on huge sites.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "websites": [
    "duolingo.com"
  ],
  "modifiedWithinDays": 0,
  "maxUrlsPerSite": 10000
}
