## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Product Hunt Scraper: Leaderboards, Launches & Products

Scrape **Product Hunt leaderboards and product pages**. Pick daily, weekly, monthly or yearly leaderboards for **any date range** and get every top launch with **rank, score, comments, topics, tagline and launch date**. Add product details, or paste product URLs, to get the **website, social links, rating and rating breakdown, reviews count, AI review summary, pros and cons, followers, categories, launches and awards**.

No login, no browser. Pay only per record delivered.

### What you can scrape

- **Daily leaderboards**: the top launches of each day, e.g. the last 7 days or a whole month, day by day.

### Use cases

- **Startup and VC scouting**: every top launch of the month with websites and socials.
- **Lead generation**: founders and tools launching in your niche, day by day.
- **Market research**: which topics and categories win, and what reviewers praise or complain about.
- **Launch planning**: scores and comments needed to reach the top 5 on a given day.

### How to use

1. Pick a **Leaderboard** and a date range (`7 days`, or `2026-10-01` to `2026-10-31`).
2. Optional: turn on **Product details for launches**, or paste product URLs.
3. Run, then open the **Launches** or **Products** view.

#### Example input

```json
{
  "leaderboard": "daily",
  "dateFrom": "2026-10-01",
  "dateTo": "2026-10-20",
  "maxLaunchesPerPeriod": 10,
  "scrapeProductDetails": true,
  "products": ["notion", "https://www.producthunt.com/products/chatgpt"]
}
```

### Pricing

- **Launch**: charged per leaderboard launch.
- **Product**: charged per product with full details (a launch with details counts as one product record).

No start fee. Pages that fail are reported as `error` records and are **not charged**.

### Tips and limits

- Without login, Product Hunt shows the top 15–20 launches of each period; that is what the actor returns.
- Product Hunt blocks datacenter IPs, so the actor uses residential proxy and retries each failed page on a new IP.
- Vote counts are hidden by Product Hunt on many launches; `score` is the ranking score shown on the leaderboard.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Product Hunt account or API token?** No.

**Is it legal?** The actor reads public pages that Product Hunt shows to every visitor. Use the data in line with Product Hunt terms and data protection rules.

**Something missing?** Open an issue on the Issues tab and I will look at it.
