## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Technology Detector: CMS, Analytics, Payments & Email Provider

Paste a list of domains and get, for each website, the technologies it runs on: **CMS and ecommerce platform**, **analytics and ad pixels**, **live chat**, **payments**, **marketing automation**, **hosting and CDN**, **JavaScript frameworks**, and more. From public DNS it also finds the **email provider** (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and others), the services that send email for the domain (SendGrid, Mailchimp, HubSpot and others) and SaaS tools the company has verified (Slack, Atlassian, Zoom, Notion, OpenAI and others). It also collects the company's **social links**.

Use it to qualify lead lists ("all Shopify stores using Klaviyo"), size a market, find prospects using a competitor, or enrich a CRM.

Only the home page of each domain is opened, like a normal browser visit. There is no login, no deep crawling and no CAPTCHA handling.

### Input

```json
{
  "domains": ["stripe.com", "https://www.zalando.de/", "notion.so"],
  "includeDns": true,
  "includeSocialLinks": true,
  "maxConcurrency": 8,
  "timeoutSeconds": 15
}
```

- `domains`: up to 5,000 domains or URLs. Duplicates are removed.
- `includeDns`: check MX and TXT records over DNS-over-HTTPS (Cloudflare, with Google as a fallback).
- `includeSocialLinks`: collect LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, GitHub and TikTok links from the home page.
- `maxConcurrency`, `timeoutSeconds`: speed and patience per website.

### Output

One dataset item per domain:

```json
{
  "domain": "acme.com",
  "url": "https://www.acme.com/",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "ok": true,
  "error": null,
  "title": "Acme – Online store",
  "description": "…",
  "language": "en",
  "technologies": [
    {"name": "Shopify", "category": "Ecommerce", "version": null},
    {"name": "Klaviyo", "category": "Email marketing", "version": null},
    {"name": "Google Workspace", "category": "Email hosting", "version": null}
  ],
  "technologyNames": ["Shopify", "Klaviyo", "Google Workspace"],
  "categories": {"Ecommerce": ["Shopify"], "Email marketing": ["Klaviyo"], "Email hosting": ["Google Workspace"]},
  "emailProvider": "Google Workspace",
  "mx": ["aspmx.l.google.com."],
  "spfIncludes": ["_spf.google.com", "servers.mcsv.net"],
  "socialLinks": {"linkedin": "https://www.linkedin.com/company/acme", "x": "https://x.com/acme"},
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-27T12:00:00Z"
}
```

A run summary (domains checked, detected, failed, invalid inputs) is saved to the `OUTPUT` record.

### What it detects

About 135 technologies in 37 categories, including WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Drupal, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, HubSpot, Marketo, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Segment, Hotjar, Mixpanel, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, Intercom, Drift, Zendesk, Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, React, Next.js, Vue.js, Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Versions are reported when the site shows them.

### Good to know

- Detection reads what a visitor's browser receives on the home page. Tools loaded only on other pages or only after a click may be missed.
- Some websites block automated visits. Then `ok` is `false` with the reason in `error`, unless DNS still revealed something.
- You pay only for domains where something was found (`ok: true`). Failed domains are returned for free.

LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, GitHub and TikTok links found on the home page.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many websites are checked at the same time.

## `timeoutSeconds` (type: `integer`):

Give up on a website after this many seconds.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("kvozi/website-technology-detector").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
