## Pricing

from $0.85 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Availability, WHOIS (RDAP) & DNS Bulk Checker

Check thousands of domains at once: available or taken, registrar, creation/expiry/update dates, status codes, nameservers, DNSSEC and registrant organisation, straight from each registry's official RDAP service (the successor of WHOIS). For registered domains it also reads DNS: does the domain have a website (A/AAAA), does it receive email (MX) and with which provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho...), plus SPF and DMARC with the DMARC policy. Give a domain list, or names × TLDs to brainstorm a brand. No API keys.

### What you can use it for

- Brand naming: check 500 name ideas × 5 TLDs in one run and keep only the free ones
- Domain investors: expiry dates, registrar and status codes (pendingDelete, clientHold...) for a watch list
- Security and IT: nameservers, DNSSEC, creation date and registrar for a list of domains
- Lead enrichment: registration date tells you how old a company's web presence is, and the mail provider tells you whether they run Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
- Email deliverability and security audits: which domains have no SPF, no DMARC, or a DMARC policy of `none`

### Why this one

- RDAP is the official, structured successor of WHOIS: every TLD registry publishes it and the data is authoritative
- No API keys, no WHOIS parsing, no rate-limited third-party service in between
- TLDs without RDAP (.de, .io, .ch...) get a DNS delegation check so you still get a taken/free answer, clearly marked (method: dns)
- Pay only for results: **$1.00 per 1,000 domains**. No subscription.

### Input

- **Domains** (`domains`): Full domain names to check, one per line (URLs are fine too).
- **Or: names to try** (`names`): Combined with the TLD list below, e.g. names \[acme, acmeapp] × tlds \[com, io, ai] = 6 checks.
- **TLDs for the names** (`tlds`) Default: `["com", "net", "io", "ai", "co"]`.
- **Only return available domains** (`onlyAvailable`) Default: `false`.
- **Include DNS records** (`includeDns`): website, MX/mail provider, TXT, SPF, DMARC for registered domains. Default: `true`.
- **Delay between lookups (seconds)** (`delaySeconds`): Registries rate-limit RDAP; raise this for big lists. Default: `0.2`.
- **Max domains** (`maxResults`) Default: `10000`.

#### DNS fields (new)

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `hasWebsite` | The domain resolves to an IP address (A or AAAA record) |
| `hasEmail` | The domain has MX records |
| `mailProvider` | Recognised from the MX hosts: Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, Proofpoint, Mimecast, GoDaddy, IONOS, Fastmail and more |
| `dnsA`, `dnsAAAA`, `dnsMX`, `dnsTXT` | The raw records (MX sorted by priority) |
| `spf`, `dmarc`, `dmarcPolicy` | The SPF record, the DMARC record and its policy (`none`, `quarantine`, `reject`) |

Example from a test run (October 2026): `apify.com` → hasWebsite true, mailProvider "Google Workspace", dmarcPolicy "reject"; `github.com` → mailProvider "Microsoft 365", dmarcPolicy "quarantine".

### Tips

- Set delaySeconds higher (1–2 s) for lists in the thousands; registries rate-limit bursts.
- registrant is filled only where the registry publishes it (many redact it for privacy).

### Integrations and API

Run it on a schedule, trigger it from the API or a webhook, and send results to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, Slack, a database or your own code with the platform's standard integrations.

### Data and fair use

This tool reads only public sources (official APIs, public feeds or pages the publisher makes available to everyone) and respects robots.txt and rate limits. You are responsible for using the data in line with the source's terms and applicable law.

### How much it costs

You pay per result (pay-per-event), nothing per month and nothing when a run returns nothing. The price is **$1.00 per 1,000 domains** on the Free plan, with automatic discounts on paid plans (Bronze −5%, Silver −10%, Gold −15%, Platinum −20%).

Worked examples:

- 100 domains → **$0.10**
- 1,000 domains → **$1.00**
- 10,000 domains → **$10.00**
- Plus $0.001 per run start.

Platform usage (compute, storage) is included in the price: the actor runs at a small memory setting by default, so a typical run of 1,000 domains finishes in well under a minute.

### FAQ

**What is RDAP?**

RDAP is the modern, JSON replacement for WHOIS run by the registries themselves (ICANN mandates it for gTLDs). Data comes straight from the registry, so it is more reliable than scraped WHOIS pages. Some country TLDs do not offer RDAP; those rows say so in `note`.

**Why are some fields empty?**

A field is `null` when the source does not publish it for that row. The output keeps every column so your spreadsheet or integration always sees the same shape.

**Can I run it on a schedule?**

Yes. Use Apify Schedules (daily, hourly, cron) and connect the run to Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets, a webhook or the API. Each run writes a dataset you can download as JSON, CSV or Excel.

**Is there a free trial?**

The Apify Free plan includes $5 of monthly platform credit, enough to try this actor on a few hundred results at no cost. There is no subscription for the actor itself.

**Can an AI agent use this?**

Yes. The actor is available through Apify's MCP server and the API, so LLM agents (Claude, ChatGPT, LangChain, CrewAI) can call it as a tool with the same input.

**What happens if something fails?**

Runs log every skipped item with a reason. If the source is down, the actor stops cleanly and you are only charged for the results it returned.

### Changelog
