## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Florida Sunbiz Business Search & Annual Report Checker

Search the Florida Division of Corporations registry (**Sunbiz**) and get clean, structured records: entity status, addresses, registered agent, officers and managers, FEI/EIN, the full annual report history, links to every filed PDF, and a verdict on whether **this year's annual report is filed, due, or late**.

Built for KYB and due diligence, accounting and compliance firms, registered agents, lead generation, and AI agents that need Florida business data without a browser.

### What you can search

| Search by | Example | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Entity name | `Acme` | Alphabetical list from the term, like Sunbiz. Filter with *starts with* (default), *exact*, or *all*. |
| Officer or registered agent name | `Smith John` | Last name first, as Sunbiz indexes it. |
| Registered agent name | `Registered Agents Inc` | Agents only. |
| Document number | `L15000160389` | Opens the entity directly. |
| FEI/EIN number | `47-5125953` | Opens the entity directly. |

Give the Actor one term or a list of hundreds; it handles pagination, deduplication and retries.

### What you get

#### Annual report status, explained

Florida requires every active entity to file an annual report between **January 1 and May 1**, starting the year after it was formed. Filing after May 1 adds a **$400 late fee**, and entities that still have not filed by the **third Friday of September** are administratively dissolved.

`annualReportStatus` is one of:

- `filed` — this year's report is on file.
- `due` — not filed yet, and it is before May 1.
- `late_fee_applies` — not filed, after May 1, before the September dissolution date.
- `past_dissolution_deadline` — not filed and past the dissolution date.
- `not_yet_required` — the entity was formed this year.
- `not_applicable_inactive` — the entity is not active.

Use it to flag clients who are about to miss the deadline, verify that a counterparty is in good standing, or build a compliance calendar.

### Pricing

You pay per entity record returned. Searches that return nothing cost nothing beyond platform usage. Set **Max results per search term** to keep runs predictable.

### Tips

- **Officer names** go last name first: `Smith John`, not `John Smith`.
- Turn off **Fetch full details** for a fast, cheap list of name, document number and status only.
- Use **Active entities only** to skip dissolved and cross-referenced records.
- Sunbiz is protected by Cloudflare, so the Actor uses a real browser. Keep the default Apify proxy on.

### Integrations and API

Run it from the Apify API, schedule it, or call it from an AI agent through Apify's MCP server. Results land in a dataset you can export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or push to Google Sheets, webhooks and Zapier.

### Legal

This Actor reads public records published by the Florida Department of State. It does not log in, bypass paywalls, or collect anything that is not shown to every visitor of search.sunbiz.org. Use the data in line with Florida public records law and your local regulations.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchType` (type: `string`):

Which Sunbiz index to search. Entity name, officer or registered agent name, document number, or FEI/EIN number.

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

One or more names or numbers to look up. Names are matched the way Sunbiz does it: alphabetically from the term you enter. Officer names go LAST FIRST (e.g. "Smith John").

## `nameMatch` (type: `string`):

How to filter the alphabetical list Sunbiz returns for name searches. 'Starts with' keeps only entities whose name begins with your term. 'Exact' keeps only exact matches (ignoring punctuation and suffixes like LLC or INC). 'All' keeps everything Sunbiz lists, up to the maximum.

## `maxResultsPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many entities for each search term.

## `activeOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Skip inactive, dissolved and cross-referenced records.

## `fetchDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open each entity's detail page to get addresses, registered agent, officers, annual reports and document links. Turn off to get only name, document number and status from the list (faster and cheaper).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Sunbiz sits behind Cloudflare. Apify proxy is recommended; residential proxies only if datacenter ones get challenged.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchType": "entityName",
  "searchTerms": [
    "Acme"
  ],
  "nameMatch": "startsWith",
  "maxResultsPerSearch": 25,
  "activeOnly": false,
  "fetchDetails": true,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `entities` (type: `string`):

All entity records as JSON. Append ?format=csv or ?format=xlsx to the URL for other formats.

## `entitiesCsv` (type: `string`):

The same records as a CSV file, one entity per row.
