## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New Business Licences: Fresh Edmonton Business Leads

**Every business that just received its first City of Edmonton business licence: restaurants, cafés, clinics, contractors, auto shops, retailers and home-based businesses. Reach them in their first weeks for about 2¢ each.**

The Actor pulls from the **City of Edmonton's official business licence records**. It uses the city's **original issue date**, so it returns licences issued to a business **for the first time** and never renewals. That's about **650 new businesses a month**, around 300 of them commercial storefronts and offices. Each lead has the operating name, licence categories, address, neighbourhood, ward, business improvement area and first-issue date. When a business holds several categories, they're merged into one lead.

👉 **Try it free:** new Apify accounts get **$5 of free credit every month**.

### Real sample leads (pulled October 2026)

| Business | Category | Address | Neighbourhood | First issued |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kubo Hut | Restaurant or Food Service | 719 - 75 Street SW | Ellerslie | 2026-10-09 |
| Bon Arabica Cafe | Restaurant or Food Service | 2, 13750 - 50 Street NW | Clareview Town Centre | 2026-10-09 |
| Spinal Elements Wellness Clinic | Personal Service; Health Enhancement Centre | 16520 - 118 Avenue NW | Carleton Square Industrial | 2026-10-08 |
| ACX Modern | Vehicle Repair, Maintenance, and Modification | 11725 - 156 Street NW | Garside Industrial | 2026-10-08 |
| One Percent Project Management Ltd. | Construction, Contracting, and Labour Service | 7105 - Girard Road NW | Girard Industrial | 2026-10-08 |

**ROI:** 1,000 new Edmonton businesses cost $20. One POS, insurance, bookkeeping or marketing client covers that many times over.

### Who uses it

POS & payments · commercial insurance · accountants & bookkeepers · local marketing/SEO/web agencies · signage, fit-out and cleaning companies · food-service, beauty and auto-parts suppliers · B2B SaaS for restaurants, clinics and trades.

### Filters

- **Licence types**: `Commercial`, `Home Based`, `Non-Resident`, `Massage Practitioner`
- **Business categories** (contains): `Restaurant or Food Service`, `Retail Sales`, `Personal Service`, `Construction`, `Vehicle Repair`
- **Neighbourhoods** (`Downtown`, `Oliver`, `Ritchie`) and **wards** (`O-day'min`, `Métis`, `Karhiio`)
- **Exclude adult services** (on by default)
- First-issue date range

### Set it up as a daily lead feed

1. Set your filters (or leave them empty for everything).
2. Keep **Only new since last run** on. Each run returns only leads you haven't seen.
3. Click **Schedule → Daily** and connect **Google Sheets, HubSpot, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier or Make**.

You only pay for the leads you get, so a run with nothing new costs almost nothing.

### Input

```json
{ "licenceTypes": ["Commercial"], "categories": ["Restaurant or Food Service"], "dateFrom": "30 days", "onlyNew": true }
```

### Output fields

`licenceNumber, businessName, categories, licenceType, address, city, province, homeBased, neighbourhood, ward, businessImprovementArea, firstIssued, mostRecentIssue, expires, licenceDuration, latitude, longitude, source`. Export as CSV, Excel or JSON, or pull it through the API.

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$0.02 per lead** ($20 per 1,000). No subscription.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** The "City of Edmonton - Business Licences" dataset on data.edmonton.ca, published by the city for reuse and updated daily.
**Why are some addresses blank?** The city withholds addresses for home-based and non-resident businesses. Those leads are flagged with `homeBased` or the `Non-Resident` licence type.
**Does it include phone numbers?** The city doesn't publish them. Enrich with your usual tool.
**Other cities?** Request yours in the Issues tab.
