## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New Business Leads: Sonoma County, CA Fictitious Business Name Filings

**Every new DBA registered in Sonoma County, from painters, cleaners and landscapers to wineries, consultants and shops. Each lead has the owner's name and address. About 1¢ a lead.**

Every business operating under an assumed name in California must file a **Fictitious Business Name (FBN) statement** with the County Clerk. This Actor reads the **Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder's official FBN open data** and returns **new filings only**, about **100 a month**. Renewals are excluded: California files renewals as fresh statements, so the Actor drops any filing whose business started more than a year earlier. Each lead includes the business name(s), **registrant (owner) name**, entity type, business address, mailing and registrant addresses, start date and filing date.

👉 **Try it free:** new Apify accounts get **$5 of free platform credit every month**, enough for hundreds of leads.

### Real sample leads (pulled October 2026)

| Business | Registrant | City | Type | Filed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Excel Painting & Restoration | Bill P McKeever | Santa Rosa | Individual | 2026-09-25 |
| Colibri Playgarden | Janine Reimann | Rohnert Park | Individual | 2026-09-25 |
| Next Chapter Living Solutions | North Bay Online Estate Auction | Healdsburg | Corporation | 2026-09-25 |
| That Fiber Bish | Christina Bishop | Santa Rosa | Individual | 2026-09-25 |
| Peptoc | People Projects | Cotati | Corporation | 2026-09-25 |

**ROI:** 1,000 brand-new Sonoma County businesses cost $10. One bookkeeping, insurance or website client pays for years of runs.

### Who uses it

Accountants, bookkeepers & payroll · business insurance · banks and merchant services · web design, SEO & local marketing · business-formation and registered-agent services · B2B suppliers and sign shops.

### Filters

**Cities** (`Santa Rosa`, `Petaluma`, `Healdsburg`, `Sonoma`) · **ZIPs** · **business types** (`Individual`, `Limited Liability Company`, `Corporation`) · **business name keywords** · **exclude renewals** (on by default) · filing-date range.

### Set it up as a daily lead feed

Keep **Only new since last run** on, choose **Schedule → Daily**, and send leads to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Slack, Zapier or Make. The county posts filings in batches, usually a few weeks after filing. With dedupe on, each batch shows up once.

### Input

```json
{ "cities": ["Santa Rosa", "Petaluma"], "businessTypes": ["Individual", "Limited Liability Company"], "dateFrom": "30 days", "onlyNew": true }
```

### Output fields

`documentNumber, filingDate, businessName, allBusinessNames, registrantName, businessType, businessAddress, city, state, zip, mailingAddress, registrantAddress, dateBusinessCommenced, expirationDate, source`

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$0.01 per lead** ($10 per 1,000). No subscription.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** The "Fictitious Business Names" dataset on data.sonomacounty.ca.gov, published by the County of Sonoma.
**Why are the newest filings a few weeks old?** The county publishes in batches. Use a 30–45 day window for the first run, then let the daily schedule pick up each new batch.
**Does it include phone or email?** FBN statements don't collect them. You get the owner's name and address, which most enrichment tools can match.
