## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple App Store Search Scraper: apps, ratings, prices and rank

Type a search and get App Store results as rows, in the order Apple ranks them: app name, developer, star rating, rating count, price, category, age rating, version, release dates, description and link. Up to 200 apps per search, in any country's store.

You pay per app delivered.

### What you get

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `rank` | 1 |
| `name` | WhatsApp Messenger |
| `sellerName` | WhatsApp Inc. |
| `rating` / `ratingCount` | 4.68 / 18,764,696 |
| `formattedPrice` | Free |
| `genre` | Social Networking |
| `contentRating` | 12+ |
| `version` | 26.40.77 |
| `currentVersionReleaseDate` | 2026-10-12 (last update) |
| `bundleId` | net.whatsapp.WhatsApp |
| `url` | App Store link |

#### Sample output

```json
{
  "searchQuery": "whatsapp",
  "rank": 1,
  "trackId": 310633997,
  "bundleId": "net.whatsapp.WhatsApp",
  "name": "WhatsApp Messenger",
  "sellerName": "WhatsApp Inc.",
  "price": 0,
  "formattedPrice": "Free",
  "currency": "USD",
  "rating": 4.68343,
  "ratingCount": 18764696,
  "genre": "Social Networking",
  "contentRating": "12+",
  "version": "26.40.77",
  "releaseDate": "2009-05-04T02:43:49Z",
  "currentVersionReleaseDate": "2026-10-12T12:34:26Z",
  "url": "https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997?uo=4"
}
```

### Quick start

1. Type search phrases into **Search phrases**, one per line ("budget tracker", "meditation").
2. Pick a **Store country** (`us`, `gb`, `de`...). Ratings, prices and ranking follow that store.
3. Set **Max apps per search** and click **Start**.

The default input searches "whatsapp" in the US store and runs as-is.

### Use cases

- App store optimization: see who ranks for your keywords and where you sit, then rerun weekly to track movement with `rank`.
- Market research: list every app in a niche with its rating count, a rough stand-in for its size.
- Find apps nobody has updated in years with `currentVersionReleaseDate`. They're often easy to beat.
- Compare the same search across countries.

### What happens when something goes wrong

Apple's search is fuzzy, so even a junk phrase can return a few apps; you pay for whatever Apple sends back. A phrase with no results returns 0 rows and isn't charged.

### Pricing

Pay per app delivered, plus Apify's small start fee per run. Set a maximum cost per run and the scraper stops at your limit.

### FAQ

**Why do results stop at 200?**
Apple's search never returns more than 200 apps for one phrase. Split broad searches into narrower ones.

**Does it get reviews?**
No. This tool returns the app listing and its rating summary.

**Why is `price` 0 for paid-looking apps?**
Many apps are free to download and charge inside the app. `price` is the download price only.

**Something broke?**
Open an issue with the search phrase and country. I answer within a day.

### Limitations

- Search results only; you can't paste app links here.
- Rank is Apple's, as returned at run time. It shifts through the day.

### Export or use as an API

Download any run's results from the **Storage** tab as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML.

To call it from your own code, send your input to Apify's API and get the rows back in one request:

```
POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/leathered_latch~apple-app-store-search-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN
```

It also plugs into Make, Zapier and n8n through Apify's integrations, and AI agents can find and run it through Apify's MCP server.

### Your responsibility

How you use the output is your call, and so is the legal side of it. Copyright still covers any text or images you republish. The source site's own terms apply too. If you're unsure about a use, check with a lawyer first.

If you own content that shows up in these results and want it handled differently, open an issue on the Issues tab. We answer within 14 days.

### Data source and credit

Every row comes from the Apple App Store, through Apple's public iTunes Search API (Apple Inc.). We don't own this data, and we don't take credit for it. The app listings belong to the app developers.

This tool reads only what Apple shows to any logged-out visitor. No logins, no private data. Each row keeps a link back to the page it came from (the `url` field), so you can check any result and credit the source when you use it.
