## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Play App Scraper: ratings, installs and search rank

Search Google Play the way a user does, or paste app IDs, and get each app back as a row: rating, number of ratings, install bracket, developer, category, price, ads and in-app purchase flags, and last update date.

You pay only for apps delivered. Bad IDs and empty searches cost nothing.

### What you get

| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| `searchRank` | 1 |
| `name` | Photo Editor - Polish |
| `rating` / `ratingCount` | 4.8 / 4708359 |
| `installs` / `installsMin` | 100M+ / 100000000 |
| `developer` | InShot Inc. |
| `category` | PHOTOGRAPHY |
| `isFree`, `containsAds`, `inAppPurchases` | true, true, true |
| `updated` | Oct 9, 2026 |
| `appId` | com.duolingo |

Every row is flat, so it drops straight into a spreadsheet.

#### Sample output

```json
{
  "appId": "com.duolingo",
  "name": "Duolingo: Learn Languages",
  "developer": "Duolingo",
  "category": "EDUCATION",
  "rating": 4.74,
  "ratingCount": 50835742,
  "installs": "500M+",
  "installsMin": 500000000,
  "price": 0,
  "isFree": true,
  "containsAds": true,
  "inAppPurchases": true,
  "contentRating": "Everyone",
  "updated": "Oct 6, 2026",
  "url": "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duolingo"
}
```

### Quick start

1. Type keywords in **Search keywords** (`budget tracker`, `meditation`), or paste package names or Play links in **App IDs**. You can use both.
2. Change **Country** if you care about a market other than the US. Rankings differ by country.
3. Click **Start**.

The default input searches "budget tracker" and returns about 30 apps.

### Use cases

- Track where your app ranks for its main keywords, week over week.
- Build a list of every competitor in a category with their ratings and install size.
- Watch competitors' update dates to see who ships and who's gone quiet.
- Find big apps with weak ratings, which is where reviews say users want something better.

### How many apps per search

Google Play shows about 30 apps for a keyword before you scroll. That's what this returns, ranked in the same order. If you need more, add related keywords (`budget app`, `expense tracker`, `money manager`); duplicates across searches are only charged once.

### What happens when something goes wrong

An app ID that doesn't exist, a link that isn't a Play link, or a search with no results each show up in `RUN_SUMMARY` with the reason, and none of them are charged. The rest of the run carries on.

### Pricing

Pay per app delivered, plus Apify's small start fee per run. Set a maximum cost per run and the scraper stops at your limit.

### FAQ

**Does it need a Google account?**
No. It reads public Play Store pages.

**Why is `rating` empty for some apps?**
Brand-new apps with too few ratings don't show a score on Google Play. We leave it blank.

**Exact install counts?**
Google only shows brackets (100M+, 1B+). `installsMin` turns the bracket into a number so you can sort.

**Does it scrape reviews?**
Not yet. App details and search only.

**Something broke?**
Open an issue with your input. I answer within a day.

### Limitations

- About 30 apps per keyword (Google's first page).
- Prices and rankings follow the country you pick.
- Apps only, no games-specific charts or books.

### Export or use as an API

Download any run's results from the **Storage** tab as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML.

To call it from your own code, send your input to Apify's API and get the rows back in one request:

```
POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/leathered_latch~google-play-apps-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN
```

It also plugs into Make, Zapier and n8n through Apify's integrations, and AI agents can find and run it through Apify's MCP server.

### Your responsibility

How you use the output is your call, and so is the legal side of it. Copyright still covers any text or images you republish. The source site's own terms apply too. If you're unsure about a use, check with a lawyer first.

If you own content that shows up in these results and want it handled differently, open an issue on the Issues tab. We answer within 14 days.

### Data source and credit

Every row comes from Google Play (Google LLC). We don't own this data, and we don't take credit for it. The app listings belong to the app developers.

This tool reads only what Google shows to any logged-out visitor. No logins, no private data. Each row keeps a link back to the page it came from (the `url` field), so you can check any result and credit the source when you use it.
