## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Dice Jobs Scraper

Extract public Dice.com job listings from US result pages or specific posting
URLs. Each row is flat and typed for recruiting research, market analysis, alerts,
spreadsheets, and data pipelines.

### Why this actor?

- Search and detail modes cover discovery and focused enrichment.
- Hard result/page limits keep delivery and spend bounded.
- Errors, blocked pages, not-found pages, and empty searches are free.
- A no-match search is reported as "no jobs found" — never as a retried failure.
- Pay, employment type, workplace arrangement, and posting dates come from the
  page's own structured data where Dice publishes it.
- Public pages only: no login, profiles, applications, or contact enrichment.

### Input

```json
{"mode":"search","searchUrl":"https://www.dice.com/jobs?q=python&location=Remote","maxResults":50,"maxPages":1}
```

For detail mode, set `mode` to `detail` and provide `jobUrls` (up to 100 public
`https://www.dice.com/job-detail/<guid>` posting URLs).

### Output

```json
{"mode":"search","input":"https://www.dice.com/jobs?q=python&location=Remote","job_id":"affcf589-2bc3-456b-8c78-5ed5db88ebd3","title":"Gen AI,Python","company":"QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES LLC","company_url":null,"location":"Miami, Florida","salary":"$80","salary_min":null,"salary_max":null,"salary_currency":null,"salary_period":null,"job_type":"Full-time","employment_type":null,"work_arrangement":null,"badges":["Easy Apply"],"description":null,"posted_on":"Yesterday","posted_at":null,"valid_through":null,"url":"https://www.dice.com/job-detail/affcf589-2bc3-456b-8c78-5ed5db88ebd3","source_page":"https://www.dice.com/jobs?q=python&location=Remote","error":null,"scraped_at":"2026-09-27T00:00:00.000Z"}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event, and **the platform usage is on us** — the price you see is the price you pay, with no compute bill on top.

| Event | Price | What one charge buys |
|---|---|---|
| Dice job result | **$0.001545** | One delivered public Dice.com job row. Error, invalid-input, blocked, not-found, and no-match rows are free. |
| Actor Start | **$0.002** | One run, whatever it returns. |

Higher Apify subscription tiers pay less on every event (Silver −20%, Gold −35%).

### Proxy

Requests use the Apify proxy configured in `proxyConfiguration`. The validated
default is datacenter. This actor does not bypass challenges.

### Use cases

- Track US hiring by role, location, or workplace arrangement.
- Build job alerts or market-demand datasets from Dice postings.
- Enrich a reviewed list of public Dice.com posting URLs with pay and dates.

### FAQ

**Does this scrape candidate profiles or submit applications?** No. It reads public
job listings only, never logs in, and never touches personal data.

**Why are some rows missing structured pay numbers?** Dice publishes schema.org
base salary on most postings, but not all — the displayed `salary` label is always
kept verbatim, and `salary_min`/`salary_max` stay null when the page states none.

**Why do search rows have no description?** Result cards carry no posting text; use
detail mode for the full description.
