## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Orange County CA Lien Filings: UCC, Tax, Mechanics & Judgments

Search the Orange County, California Clerk-Recorder public index and get clean, structured lien records for secured-lending, credit, collections and due-diligence workflows. One row per recorded UCC filing, federal or state tax lien, mechanics lien, judgment, lis pendens or other statutory lien, with the debtor and the secured party or claimant already separated.

Orange County is one of the largest recording jurisdictions in California. Its public index carries the county-level lien families that the California Secretary of State UCC system does not: recorded federal and state tax liens, mechanics and construction liens, judgment liens, abstracts of judgment, lis pendens and HOA or other statutory liens.

### What you get

- **Document identity**: document number, all published document types, recorder type code, recording date, page count and prior instrument number when the record terminates or releases an earlier filing.
- **Debtor side**: every debtor, defendant, owner or grantor name, with counts and the raw grantor list.
- **Secured-party side**: every secured party, plaintiff, judgment creditor, tax agency or lien claimant, with counts and the raw grantee list.
- **Lien classification**: normalized `ucc`, `tax_lien`, `mechanics_lien`, `judgment_lien`, `lis_pendens` and `other_lien` categories, plus a normalized filing type such as `ucc_initial`, `termination`, `tax_lien` or `lis_pendens`.
- **Release handling**: terminations, UCC releases and lis-pendens releases are flagged. When the index publishes the prior instrument number, the actor resolves the original filing so the debtor and secured party stay on the correct side.
- **Property data**: city, lot and tract when the county publishes them on the document detail, plus the transfer-tax amount where present.
- **Clean JSON**: flat snake_case keys, no nested objects, no HTML, stable record IDs and semicolon-separated party lists.
- **Exact document lookup**: pull one known document number without a date range.

### Who it is for

- **MCA and ISO brokers** who want new UCC-1 filings and lender changes in Southern California.
- **Equipment finance, factoring and commercial lenders** monitoring competitor secured-party activity.
- **Credit, collections and recovery teams** tracking tax liens, judgments and mechanics liens against a business or property.
- **Construction suppliers and contractors** finding mechanics-lien filings and the owner/claimant pair.
- **KYB, legal and due-diligence teams** checking whether a counterparty already has recorded secured debt.
- **Tax-lien and real-estate researchers** working Orange County recordings.

### How to use it

Add one or more of the following:

| Input | What it does |
|---|---|
| `debtorNames` | Search the debtor, defendant or owner side. Partial names work, for example `SMITH` or `PATEL`. |
| `securedPartyNames` | Search the lender, claimant, plaintiff or creditor side, for example `INTERNAL REVENUE` or `SOLAR MOSAIC`. |
| `documentNumbers` | Look up exact Clerk-Recorder document numbers, for example `2026000270379`. |
| `lienTypes` | Keep only the categories you need: `ucc`, `tax_lien`, `mechanics_lien`, `judgment_lien`, `lis_pendens`, `other_lien`. |
| `includeReleases` | Set `false` for new liens and active filings only; terminations and releases are excluded. |
| `dateFrom` / `dateTo` | Recorded-date window in `YYYY-MM-DD`. Empty dates mean the last 30 days on a browse run and the last five years on a name search. |
| `maxFilings` | Maximum unique records to return and charge. Free Apify users receive up to 10 results per run. |

Leave all search fields empty to browse the newest recordings in the selected categories.

#### Example input

```json
{
  "debtorNames": ["SMITH"],
  "lienTypes": ["ucc", "tax_lien", "mechanics_lien", "judgment_lien", "lis_pendens"],
  "dateFrom": "2026-01-01",
  "maxFilings": 25
}
```

### Coverage and freshness

- **Jurisdiction**: Orange County, California.
- **Record families**: UCC-1 and the UCC-3 chain, federal tax liens, state and county tax liens, mechanics and construction liens, judgments, abstracts of judgment, lis pendens, writs and other statutory liens.
- **Source**: Orange County Clerk-Recorder public recorded-document index.
- **Freshness**: the public index is updated as documents are recorded. A browse run reads the most recent recordings first, so you get the newest liens without maintaining a date cursor.
- **History**: the county's public name index covers recordings from 1963 to present.

Orange County does not publish a lien amount on the free public index, so `amount` is `null` rather than guessed. `transfer_tax_amount` is published separately and is not treated as a lien amount.

### Pricing

- **$0.03 per returned record** (`result` event).
- **$0.003 actor start** event, charged once per run at 512 MB.
- **$0.033 minimum** total charge.
- No charge for a run that returns no records. An uncharged error row explains why.

### FAQ

**Does this cover the California Secretary of State UCC system?**
No. This actor is dedicated to the Orange County Clerk-Recorder index. California statewide UCC filings are a separate source.

**Does it include federal and state tax liens?**
Yes. Federal tax-lien notices and state or county tax-lien notices are separate categories and can be filtered.

**Can I get only new liens and exclude releases?**
Yes. Set `includeReleases` to `false`. UCC terminations, UCC releases and lis-pendens releases are excluded.

**Are debtor and secured party separated?**
Yes. UCC initial filings, continuations and amendments put the debtor on the grantor side and the secured party on the grantee side. Mechanics liens, tax liens, judgments and other liens put the debtor, owner or taxpayer on the grantor side and the claimant or creditor on the grantee side. Lis pendens put the plaintiff on the grantor side and the defendants on the grantee side. Terminations and releases are resolved against the prior instrument when the county publishes it.

**Does it return document images?**
No. The actor returns the public index record and a link to the county's search page. Images and certified copies are ordered from the county.

**Is this an FCRA consumer report?**
No. It is public-record research for business, credit, legal and due-diligence workflows. Do not use it for credit, employment, tenant or other FCRA eligibility decisions.
