## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple App Store Reviews Scraper — multi-country, with app details

Collect **Apple App Store reviews** for any app, across **as many countries as you want in one run**, with star rating, review title, full text, app version reviewed, helpful votes and date — plus app details (name, developer, price, average rating, rating count, genre, current version).

Uses Apple's own public customer-review RSS feed and iTunes lookup API, so runs are fast and stable. **Reviewer names are not collected.**

### Why this Actor

- **Multi-country in one run**: Apple stores reviews per storefront. Pass `["us","gb","ca","au","in","de","fr","jp"]` and get them all, tagged by country.
- **Find apps by keyword** (`searchTerms`) — no need to look up IDs.
- **Rating filter** – e.g. only 1–2★ reviews for complaint mining.
- **Complaint themes + summary** – every review is tagged (crash, login, subscription, ads, performance…) and a `SUMMARY` record gives theme counts, top complaints and rating by app version.

### Use cases

App-store optimisation (ASO), competitor research, product feedback mining, sentiment analysis and LLM summarisation of user complaints, localisation research.

### Quick start

Press **Start** with the default input. It returns the latest Duolingo reviews from the US and UK, each tagged with complaint themes, in a few seconds.

Example: only 1-2★ complaints about crashes, login and subscriptions, in 6 countries:

```json
{
  "apps": ["https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatsapp-messenger/id310633997", "570060128"],
  "countries": ["us", "gb", "ca", "au", "in", "de"],
  "maxReviewsPerCountry": 500,
  "maxRating": 2,
  "onlyThemes": ["crash_or_bug", "login_or_account", "subscription_or_price"],
  "maxItems": 3000,
  "maxCostUsd": 1
}
```

### Complaint themes and summary (built in, no extra cost)

Every review gets:

- `themes`: keyword-based tags from crash_or_bug, login_or_account, subscription_or_price, ads, performance, sync_or_data_loss, notifications, ui_or_ux, support, feature_request and privacy
- `sentiment`: negative (1-2★), neutral (3★) or positive (4-5★)
- `isCurrentVersion`: whether the review is about the app's latest version
- `reviewUrl`

The key-value store record **SUMMARY** gives you, per app and country:

- the rating distribution
- `themeCounts` and `negativeThemeCounts`
- `topComplaintThemes`
- `ratingByVersion`, which shows whether the last update made things worse

Themes are keyword rules, not an AI model. They are fast and deterministic, but they can miss sarcasm or unusual wording.

### Input

- **apps** – App Store URLs or numeric IDs
- **searchTerms** + **appsPerSearch** – optional discovery
- **countries** – 2-letter storefront codes
- **maxReviewsPerCountry** (Apple exposes up to 500 most recent per country), **sortBy**, **minRating**, **maxRating**, **includeAppDetails**, **maxItems**
- **onlyThemes** – keep only reviews tagged with these themes
- **maxCostUsd** – optional spend cap for this run

}
```
### Pricing & cost control
- **Pay per result**: you are charged one `review` event per review saved to the dataset. The current price per review is shown on the Actor's **Pricing** tab; platform usage (compute) is included in that price.
- **Hard caps, so a run can never surprise you**:
  - `maxItems` stops after N reviews.
  - `maxCostUsd` (optional) stops cleanly once that many dollars have been charged in this run.
  - Apify's own **Maximum cost per run** (Run options) is also respected; the Actor stops cleanly and keeps everything saved so far.
- Results that fail (errors, blocked pages, empty inputs) are not charged.
### FAQ & limits
- **How many reviews can I get?** Apple's public feed exposes at most the 500 most recent (or most helpful) reviews per app per country. Add more countries to get more.
- **Reviewer names?** Not collected.
- **Google Play?** Not in this Actor.
- **Which countries?** Any 2-letter App Store storefront code (us, gb, de, jp, br…).
# Actor input Schema
