## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Jobs.ac.uk Scraper — UK academic and university jobs

Extract UK academic, research and university jobs from Jobs.ac.uk by keyword and region: title, employer, department, location, salary, posting and closing date, URL.

### Three rows from a real run

| Title | Employer | Location | Salary | Closes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Associate Lecturer Conservation of Contemporary Art and Media (0.4 FTE) | UCL | London, Hybrid | 43,981–52,586 GBP per year | 2026-11-08 |
| Employer Relations Manager (12 month maternity cover contract) | London School of Economics and Political Science | London | 44,143–52,749 GBP per year | 2026-11-15 |
| Lectureship in Psychology | University of Reading | Reading | 48,337–59,390 GBP per year | 2026-11-05 |

The default run (`searchTerms: ["lecturer"]`, `maxItems: 100`) on 21 October 2026 returned 100 rows in 15 seconds and costs $0.15 at $1.50 per 1,000 results.

Jobs.ac.uk is a UK job board for academic, research and professional jobs in universities, colleges and research institutes. This Actor turns its search into a clean table: the job, the university, the department, the place, the salary and grade, when the job was placed and when applications close. Newest first; 362 lecturer jobs were open on the day of the example run.

Press Start. The defaults return lecturer jobs, newest first.

### What a row looks like

```json
{
  "title": "Associate Lecturer Conservation of Contemporary Art and Media (0.4 FTE)",
  "company": "UCL",
  "location": "London, Hybrid",
  "salary_min": 43981,
  "salary_max": 52586,
  "salary_currency": "GBP",
  "salary_period": "year",
  "posted_at": "2026-10-20",
  "application_deadline": "2026-11-08",
  "categories": [
    "History of Art"
  ],
  "source_url": "https://www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DTI783/associate-lecturer-conservation-of-contemporary-art-and-media-04-fte",
  "external_id": "1091614"
}
```

`company` is the university or institute. Business names only: a name that contains a person's name is left empty by the catalogue's rule — which also empties a university named after a person ("Liverpool John Moores University"); `categories` still names the department. No contact person, e-mail or phone is collected and the job text is not read.

Every row also carries `source_site` and `scraped_at`.

| Field | What it holds | How often it is filled (example run, 100 rows) |
|---|---|---|
| `title`, `company`, `location` | Job title; university or institute; town (and Hybrid / Remote where given) | Always |
| `company` | Employer | 99 of 100 |
| `categories` | Department or school | 90 of 100 |
| `salary_min`, `salary_max`, `salary_currency`, `salary_period` | Salary range; GBP; `year` (hourly where stated) | 86 of 100 |
| `posted_at` | Date placed | Always |
| `application_deadline` | Closing date | Always |
| `source_url`, `external_id` | The job on Jobs.ac.uk, its advert id | Always |

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Keywords, e.g. `lecturer`, `research fellow`, `professor`. Each keyword is one search. Empty: every job. |
| `location` | One region as the site's location filter names it, e.g. `Greater London`, `Scotland`, `Wales`, `Northern Ireland`, `Ireland`. |
| `category` | One academic discipline as the site names it, e.g. `Computer Sciences`, `Health & Medical`. |
| `postedAfter`, `sinceDays` | Keep only jobs placed on or after a date, or in the last N days (the list is newest first, so the run stops there). |
| `maxItems` | Stop after this many rows. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Off by default; not needed for this site. |

### How it works

The Actor sends the site's own search sorted by date placed, reads 25 results a page, pausing 2 seconds between requests, and never opens a job's page. The list shows dates without a year ("19 Oct"); the year is the one that puts the posting date on or before the day of the run and the closing date after it. A region or discipline the site does not know returns no rows.

### Pricing

$1.50 per 1,000 results (event `result-item`), no start fee. Set a maximum charge per run in the run options to cap it.

### Good to know

- The data is what the site shows on the day of the run.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords, e.g. lecturer, research fellow or professor. Each keyword is one search. Leave empty for every job.

## `location` (type: `string`):

One region as the site's location filter names it, e.g. Greater London, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, England, Ireland. Leave empty for every place.

## `category` (type: `string`):

One field as the site's Academic Discipline filter names it, e.g. Computer Sciences, Health & Medical, Engineering & Technology. Leave empty for all.

## `postedAfter` (type: `string`):

Return only listings posted at or after this ISO 8601 date-time, e.g. 2026-09-01T00:00:00Z.

## `sinceDays` (type: `integer`):

Keep only listings posted in the last N days, counted in UTC from the day the run starts: 1 = yesterday and today. Made for a daily schedule. Ignored when Posted after is set.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many records. Keeps your cost predictable.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Off by default. Turn on (residential, in the site's country) only if runs start getting blocked with 403/429.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": [
    "lecturer"
  ],
  "location": "",
  "category": "",
  "postedAfter": "",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `overview` (type: `string`):

All listings from this run: what the car is, what it costs, and who is selling it.

## `pricing` (type: `string`):

The same listings reduced to the fields used for price analysis and market monitoring.

## `dealers` (type: `string`):

The same listings focused on who is selling them.

## `runReport` (type: `string`):

Pages read, records delivered, errors, and the verdict (ok, degraded or broken).
