## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## NHS Jobs Scraper — UK health service vacancies

Extract NHS job vacancies from NHS Jobs by keyword and place: title, employer, location, salary band, contract type, working pattern, posting and closing date, URL.

### Three rows from a real run

| Title | Employer | Location | Salary | Contract |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) in Burns and Plastics | University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust | Birmingham B15 2TH | 67,325 GBP per year | Fixed-Term |
| Deputy Named Nurse | East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (Cambridge) | St Ives PE27 4LG | 49,387–56,515 GBP per year | Secondment |
| Senior Staff Nurse (Orthopaedic Trauma Unit) - Fixed Term | Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust | Reading RG1 5AN | 39,959–48,117 GBP per year | Fixed-Term |

The default run (`searchTerms: ["nurse"]`, `maxItems: 100`) on 21 October 2026 returned 100 rows in 25 seconds and costs $0.15 at $1.50 per 1,000 results.

NHS Jobs is the vacancy service of the NHS in England and Wales: trusts, GP practices and other NHS employers post their jobs there. This Actor turns its search into a clean table: the job, the employer, the place and postcode, the salary, the contract type and working pattern, and the posting and closing dates. Newest first; 5,290 nurse vacancies were listed on the day of the example run.

Press Start. The defaults return nurse vacancies, newest first, across England and Wales.

### What a row looks like

```json
{
  "title": "Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) in Burns and Plastics",
  "company": "University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust",
  "location": "Birmingham B15 2TH",
  "employment_type": "Fixed-Term",
  "workload": "Full time",
  "salary_min": 67325,
  "salary_max": 67325,
  "salary_currency": "GBP",
  "salary_period": "year",
  "posted_at": "2026-10-20",
  "application_deadline": "2026-10-29",
  "source_url": "https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/candidate/jobadvert/C0020-26-1619",
  "external_id": "C0020-26-1619"
}
```

`company` is the NHS body or practice. Business names only: a name that is or contains a person's name (a practice named after its doctors, for example) is left empty. No contact person, e-mail or phone is collected and the job text is not read.

Every row also carries `source_site` and `scraped_at`.

| Field | What it holds | How often it is filled (example run, 100 rows) |
|---|---|---|
| `title`, `company`, `location` | Job title; employer; town and postcode (several places separated by `;`) | Always |
| `employment_type` | Contract type: Permanent, Fixed-Term, Bank, Secondment, … | Always |
| `workload` | Working pattern: Full time, Part time, Flexible working, … | Always |
| `salary_min`, `salary_max`, `salary_currency`, `salary_period` | Salary range; GBP; `year` or `hour` | 93 of 100 |
| `posted_at` | Date posted | Always |
| `application_deadline` | Closing date | Always |
| `source_url`, `external_id` | The vacancy on NHS Jobs, its reference number | Always |

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| `searchTerms` | Keywords, e.g. `nurse`, `healthcare assistant`, `pharmacist`. Each keyword is one search. Empty: every vacancy. |
| `location` | A town, city or postcode, e.g. `Leeds` or `LS1`. Empty: England and Wales. |
| `distanceMiles` | How far around the place: 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or 100. 0 keeps the site default. |
| `postedAfter`, `sinceDays` | Keep only vacancies posted on or after a date, or in the last N days (newest first, so the run stops there). |
| `maxItems` | Stop after this many rows. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Off by default; not needed for this site. |

### How it works

The Actor sends the site's own search sorted by date posted, reads 10 results a page, pausing 2 seconds between requests, and never opens a vacancy's page. A place the site cannot match (it says "Location not found") or a search with no result returns no rows.

### Pricing

$1.50 per 1,000 results (event `result-item`), no start fee. Set a maximum charge per run in the run options to cap it.

### Good to know

- The data is what the site shows on the day of the run.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords, e.g. nurse, healthcare assistant or pharmacist. Each keyword is one search. Leave empty for every vacancy.

## `location` (type: `string`):

A town, city or postcode, e.g. Leeds or LS1. Leave empty for England and Wales. A place the site cannot match returns no rows.

## `distanceMiles` (type: `integer`):

How far around the place to search: 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or 100 miles. 0 keeps the site default.

## `postedAfter` (type: `string`):

Return only listings posted at or after this ISO 8601 date-time, e.g. 2026-09-01T00:00:00Z.

## `sinceDays` (type: `integer`):

Keep only listings posted in the last N days, counted in UTC from the day the run starts: 1 = yesterday and today. Made for a daily schedule. Ignored when Posted after is set.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many records. Keeps your cost predictable.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Off by default. Turn on (residential, in the site's country) only if runs start getting blocked with 403/429.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": [
    "nurse"
  ],
  "location": "",
  "distanceMiles": 0,
  "postedAfter": "",
  "maxItems": 100,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `overview` (type: `string`):

All listings from this run: what the car is, what it costs, and who is selling it.

## `pricing` (type: `string`):

The same listings reduced to the fields used for price analysis and market monitoring.

## `dealers` (type: `string`):

The same listings focused on who is selling them.

## `runReport` (type: `string`):

Pages read, records delivered, errors, and the verdict (ok, degraded or broken).
