## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## California New Business Leads: new LLCs and corporations in Los Angeles & San Francisco

Get **newly registered California businesses** from two official city open-data registries: the **City of Los Angeles Office of Finance (Active Businesses)** and the **San Francisco Treasurer & Tax Collector (Registered Business Locations)**. Both are updated regularly and come with a **NAICS industry code**, so you can pull "new construction companies in LA" or "new restaurants in San Francisco" directly.

In our last 30-day test run this returned **976 new business entities** (531 in Los Angeles, 445 in San Francisco), after dropping every record without a business designator.

Each result has the business name, account/certificate number, **start date**, NAICS code and industry, city, ZIP and business street address.

No browser, no proxies, no login. Runs take seconds.

### Who uses this

- **Suppliers, insurers, banks, payroll and accounting firms** reaching California companies in their first weeks.
- **Lead-gen agencies and B2B SaaS** building fresh LA or SF lists by industry or ZIP.
- **Contractor-focused sellers** targeting new construction companies (NAICS `23`).
- **Market researchers** tracking new business formation in California's two biggest business hubs.

### Privacy by design

- **Businesses only.** Records whose name has no business designator (LLC, Inc, Corp...) are dropped, so sole proprietors and personal names never appear.
- **No owner names, emails or phone numbers.**
- **Apartment-style addresses are withheld** (city/ZIP stay).

### Pricing

### Run it on a schedule

Schedule it weekly and send new businesses to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Slack or email with Apify integrations. It also works from AI assistants through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Is this legal to use?** Yes. Both cities publish these datasets on their official open-data portals for public reuse.

**Why only LA and SF?** They are the California cities that publish business registrations as open data with an API. More cities may be added.

*Not affiliated with or endorsed by the City of Los Angeles or the City and County of San Francisco.*
