## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Texas TDLR License Scraper: electrical & HVAC contractor leads (businesses only)

Get **Texas licensed contractor businesses** from the official **Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) "All Licenses"** open data on data.texas.gov. By default it returns **electrical contractors, A/C (HVAC) contractors, electrical sign contractors, elevator contractors and appliance installation contractors**. You can also pick salons and other licensed establishments, barber and beauty schools, auto parts recyclers, PEOs, service contract providers and more.

Each result has the business name, TDLR license number, license type, **expiration date**, county, city and ZIP. Registered entities also include the business street address and phone.

No browser, no proxies, no login. The Actor reads the state's open-data API, so runs take seconds.

### Who uses this

- **HVAC and electrical distributors and supply houses** building territory lists (Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio).
- **Insurance, surety bond and CE providers** targeting licenses that **expire soon** (use `expiresFrom` / `expiresTo`).
- **Field-service software, payroll and fleet** sales teams.
- **General contractors and builders** finding licensed electrical and HVAC subs by county.
- **Compliance teams** checking TDLR licenses in bulk.

### Privacy by design

- **Individual licenses are excluded.** Journeyman, apprentice, technician and other person-only licenses are never offered. Rows whose business name is a person's name are dropped.
- **Owner names, owner phone and mailing addresses are never requested** from the API.
- Trade-name (DBA) businesses are optional and come **without street address or phone**.

### Input

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| `licenseTypes` | e.g. `Electrical Contractor`, `A/C Contractor`, `Full Service Establishment` | 5 contractor types |
| `counties`, `cities`, `zipCodes` | e.g. `HARRIS`, `AUSTIN`, `787` | none |
| `keywords` | Business name contains, e.g. `solar` | none |
| `activeOnly` | Skip expired licenses | true |
| `expiresFrom` / `expiresTo` | Expiration window (YYYY-MM-DD) | none |
| `includeContactDetails` | Business address and phone (entities only) | true |
| `includeDbaBusinesses` | Add trade-name businesses (city/ZIP only) | false |
| `maxResults` | Cap | 100 |

### Output (example)

```json
{
  "businessName": "SOAR ELECTRIC LLC", "licenseNumber": "41961", "licenseType": "Electrical Contractor",
  "licenseExpirationDate": "2027-10-16", "entityKind": "Registered business entity",
  "county": "Bell", "city": "Belton", "state": "TX", "zipCode": "76513",
  "businessAddress": "12900 CANYON TRL", "businessPhone": "(512) xxx-xxxx"
}
```

Note: TDLR does not publish a street address or phone for A/C contractor licenses, so those rows have county only.

### Run it on a schedule

Schedule it weekly and send results to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Slack or email with Apify integrations. It also works from AI assistants through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Is this legal to use?** Yes. The source is the State of Texas open-data portal, which publishes this dataset for public reuse.

**How fresh is it?** TDLR refreshes the dataset regularly; each result includes `retrievedAt`.
