## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Canada Natural Health Products (NPN) Scraper – Licensed Natural Health Products Database

Search Health Canada's **Licensed Natural Health Products Database (LNHPD)** – every vitamin, supplement, herbal, probiotic, homeopathic and other natural health product licensed for sale in Canada – and export clean JSON, CSV or Excel: **NPN / DIN-HM**, brand and alternate names, licence holder, dosage form, licence date, status, **medicinal ingredients with amounts and source material**, non-medicinal ingredients, **approved recommended uses (claims)**, routes, doses and risk statements. Look up NPNs in bulk or schedule a **"new licences only"** monitor.

- ✅ Official Health Canada LNHPD API (about 150,000 licences). No scraping, no login, no API key
- ✅ One row per licence with every brand name grouped, then enriched with ingredients, claims, doses and warnings
- ✅ **Bulk NPN verification**: paste a list of NPNs and get status, holder and approved claims back
- ✅ `onlyNew` monitoring mode for new or revised licences; English **or French**; pay only for the results you get

### Who it's for

- **Amazon, Shopify and retail sellers and marketplaces** that must check a supplement's NPN before listing it in Canada
- **Supplement brands, importers and contract manufacturers** tracking competitors' new licences and approved claims
- **Regulatory consultants and compliance teams** verifying claims and licence status
- **Market researchers and product developers** mapping ingredients and dosage trends

### Pricing

**Pay per result.** You're charged once per licence written to the dataset, whatever enrichment you switch on.

### Data source, licence and privacy

- Source: Health Canada **LNHPD API** – https://health-products.canada.ca/api/documentation/lnhpd-documentation-en.html (dataset: https://open.canada.ca/data/en/dataset/ef546c83-43a8-4404-943e-ab324164eeb3). Each row links to the official LNHPD record.
- Licence: **Open Government Licence – Canada**. Every row carries the required attribution statement.
- Licence holders are companies. **No personal information** is output.
- Unofficial tool, not affiliated with or endorsed by Health Canada. A licence doesn't mean a product is currently on the market.

### Limits and notes

- Each run downloads the full licence list (about 15 MB compressed, a few seconds), then makes 2–6 small API calls per returned licence for the enrichment you choose. Large runs with all enrichment on take roughly 1 minute per 500 licences.
- `productStatus` is "Active" or "Non-active"; a few rows carry other source status codes, shown as "Other (code N)".
- The French list is sometimes slow to respond (up to about a minute).
