## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Nova Scotia Agri-food Exporters

### What it does

Returns Nova Scotia's list of agri-food and beverage exporters (~66 rows; one company appears twice with different products) from the province's open data portal: company name, products and current export markets. Products and markets also come as clean lists. Exact duplicate rows in the source are removed.

The Actor makes one request per run to the Socrata API on data.novascotia.ca.

Source: [Nova Scotia Agri-food Exporters on data.novascotia.ca](https://data.novascotia.ca/d/imrd-gftp).

### Who it's for

Importers, distributors and food buyers looking for Nova Scotia suppliers of wine, spirits, cider, seafood-adjacent and specialty foods, plus trade commissioners and market researchers.

### Input

| Key | Notes |
|---|---|
| `keyword` | company name contains |
| `product` | products contain, e.g. `wine`, `blueberr` |
| `market` | export markets contain, e.g. `USA` |
| `maxItems` | default 100, maximum 50,000 |

Example: `{"product": "cider"}`

### Output

`company`, `companyWithheld`, `products`, `productList`, `exportMarkets`, `url`, `source`, `licence`.

### Privacy

Personal data is reduced, not anonymous.

- The source has no contact names, emails, phones or addresses.
- Company names are kept. A name that looks like an individual person's name (possible sole proprietor) is blanked, with `companyWithheld: true`. None did on the Oct 16, 2026 data (0 of 66).

### Licence and terms

- **Licence:** [Nova Scotia Open Government Licence](https://novascotia.ca/opendata/licence.asp), which allows copying, modifying and distributing the data, including for commercial purposes, with attribution. Every row carries the attribution.
- **Automated access:** data.novascotia.ca robots.txt allows the API with `Crawl-delay: 1`; the Actor makes a single request.
- Independent; not endorsed by the Province of Nova Scotia.

### Pricing

**Price: $0.003 per result, no start fee** (pay per event, one result = one exporter row). The full list costs about $0.20.

### Limits

- One source row lists "Company Brand(s)" and the company name among its products; it is passed through as published.
- A small list that the province updates rarely; it does not include contact details, so buyers will need to look up each company.
