## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## EU Company Data Scraper: KVK, Impressum & VAT (VIES)

Turn a list of company websites into **verified company facts**. For every website this Actor reads the homepage and
the pages that matter (Impressum / legal notice, contact, about, terms) and returns:

- **Registration numbers**: Netherlands KVK, Belgium KBO/BCE (checksum-validated), Germany Handelsregister (HRB/HRA + court),
  Austria Firmenbuch (FN), Switzerland UID (checksum-validated), France SIREN/SIRET (checksum-validated)
- **EU VAT numbers** for all 27 member states, **checked live in VIES** (European Commission), with the official
  registered name and address where the member state provides them
- **Address** (schema.org), Dutch postcodes
- **Company e-mail addresses** (role mailboxes such as info@, sales@, kundenservice@) and **landline phone numbers**
- **Social profiles** of the company (LinkedIn company page, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, Xing)
- **Company name**, the site's own rating (schema.org), and for every fact the **page it came from** and the exact text

You only pay for websites where at least one company fact was found.

### Typical uses

- **Enrich Google Maps results**: run the Google Maps Scraper, then pass its dataset ID here. Each place gets its
  registration and VAT number; `sourceItems` keeps the title and placeId of every place with that website (chains are checked and charged once), so you can join the two.
- **Run it automatically after the Google Maps Scraper**: on the Google Maps Scraper's **Integrations** tab, add this
  Actor. Each finished Google Maps run then starts this Actor with its results.
- **Supplier and customer checks (KYB light)**: confirm that a website belongs to a registered company with a valid VAT number.
- **CRM clean-up**: add registration numbers and official names to a list of company domains.
- **E-invoicing and VAT compliance**: find and validate the VAT numbers of business customers.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `urls` | Websites or domains (`example.nl`, `https://www.example.de/kontakt`). Each website is checked once. |
| `datasetId` | Optional: the dataset of another run, for example the Google Maps Scraper. |
| `datasetUrlField` | Field in that dataset that holds the website (default `website`). |
| `maxPagesPerSite` | Homepage plus the most relevant pages, 1–10 (default 5). |
| `verifyVat` | Check VAT numbers in VIES (default on). |
| `maxConcurrency` | Websites in parallel (default 10). Each site itself is crawled at one request per second. |

### Output (one item per website)

```json
{
  "domain": "example.nl",
  "status": "ok",
  "country": "NL",
  "companyName": "Example B.V.",
  "legalIds": [{"type": "NL_KVK", "value": "12345678", "sourceText": "KvK 12345678 | BTW NL123456789B01", "sourceUrl": "https://example.nl/contact"}],
  "vatNumbers": [{"vatNumber": "NL123456789B01", "countryCode": "NL",
                  "vies": {"valid": true, "name": "EXAMPLE B.V.", "address": "DORPSSTRAAT 1, 1234AB ERGENS", "checkedAt": "2026-10-11T12:00:00Z", "error": null},
                  "sourceUrl": "https://example.nl/contact"}],
  "addresses": [{"street": "Dorpsstraat 1", "postalCode": "1234 AB", "city": "Ergens", "country": "NL", "sourceUrl": "https://example.nl/"}],
  "emails": [{"email": "info@example.nl", "ownDomain": true, "sourceUrl": "https://example.nl/contact"}],
  "phones": [{"phone": "+31201234567", "sourceUrl": "https://example.nl/contact"}],
  "socials": {"linkedin": ["https://www.linkedin.com/company/example"]},
  "pagesVisited": ["https://example.nl/", "https://example.nl/contact"],
  "personalDataFiltered": {"emails": 1, "phones": 0}
}
```

`status` is one of: `ok` (facts found, charged), `no_data` (nothing found, not charged), `robots_disallowed`,
`tdm_reserved`, `unreachable`, `invalid_input`, `skipped_timeout` or `skipped_charge_limit` (all not charged).

**Large lists:** with the default settings the Actor checks about 2 websites per second (roughly 7,000 per hour).
If the run timeout is about to be reached, it stops starting new websites, returns the rest as `skipped_timeout`
(free) and still finishes successfully, so you can run those again or increase the timeout in the run options.
The same applies to your maximum cost per run: websites that no longer fit are returned as `skipped_charge_limit`,
and VAT checks are only made for websites that are delivered.

### Pricing

Pay per event:

- **Company facts found**: per website with at least one fact (`status: ok`)
- **VAT check**: per VAT number with a definitive answer from VIES

Websites without results, blocked or unreachable websites and invalid input are free.

### Responsible by design

- **No personal data as a product.** Personal names are never extracted. E-mail addresses are only returned when they
  are role mailboxes (info@, sales-de@, hemaklantenservice@...); addresses that may name a person (jan.jansen@) are
  dropped and only counted. Mobile numbers are dropped, because for sole traders they are personal.
- **robots.txt is respected** for every page, and the crawler identifies itself as `EUCompanyFactsBot`.
- **Text and data mining opt-outs are respected** (TDMRep `tdm-reservation`, EU DSM Directive art. 4): such sites are skipped.
- **No bypassing**: no proxies, no headless browser, no CAPTCHA solving. Sites that block bots are reported as `unreachable`.
- VAT data comes from **VIES**, the official public service of the European Commission.

You remain responsible for how you use the data, including the GDPR and national rules on unsolicited e-mail.

### What to expect

Measured in October 2026 on 240 small-business websites taken from OpenStreetMap (shops, crafts and offices,
40 per country). Share of all websites in the sample:

| Country | Charged (facts found) | Registration number | VAT number | Valid in VIES | Company e-mail | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | 85% | 50% | 68% | 68% | 70% | 60% |
| Netherlands | 78% | 32% | 20% | 20% | 50% | 42% |
| Belgium | 75% | 50% | 45% | 45% | 52% | 40% |
| Austria | 70% | 38% | 50% | 50% | 45% | 30% |
| Switzerland | 62% | 28% | – (not in VIES) | – | 50% | 35% |
| France | 55% | 28% | 25% | 22% | 35% | 18% |

About 10% of websites block bots and 5% disallow crawling in robots.txt; those are reported and free. Sole traders,
doctors and many small shops have no commercial register number at all, so 100% is not possible.

### Limitations

- How often a registration number is shown differs per country. It is a legal requirement on German and Austrian
  sites (Impressum) and Belgian sites (enterprise number), so the hit rate there is high. On Dutch sites the KVK number
  is often missing.
- Sites that render their content only with JavaScript, or that block bots, give fewer or no results.
- Germany and some other member states do not share the registered name and address through VIES; the check then
  only says whether the number is valid.
- The site's own rating (`selfReportedRatings`) is what the company publishes about itself, not an independent score.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Company websites or domains, one per line (for example example.nl or https://www.example.de/kontakt). Each website is checked once.

## `datasetId` (type: `string`):

Use the results of another run, for example the Google Maps Scraper. The field named below is read as the website; title, placeId, url, address and categoryName are copied into `sourceItems` (all places that share the website) so you can join the results. Read-only access.

## `datasetUrlField` (type: `string`):

Name of the field that holds the website address.

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

Homepage plus the most relevant pages (legal notice / Impressum, contact, about, terms). 5 finds most facts.

## `verifyVat` (type: `boolean`):

Checks each EU VAT number found with VIES (European Commission) and adds the official name and address where the member state provides them.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Each website itself is crawled slowly (one request per second).

## Actor input object example

  "verifyVat": true,
  "maxConcurrency": 10
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `companies` (type: `string`):
All results of the run, one item per website (status ok, no_data, robots_disallowed, tdm_reserved, unreachable, invalid_input, skipped_timeout or skipped_charge_limit).
## `overview` (type: `string`):
The main fields per website, as shown in the Overview table.
