## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## The Music Zoo Scraper

Scrape **The Music Zoo** (themusiczoo.com) — a premier guitar shop in New York stocking **new, used, and vintage guitars, amplifiers, effects and music gear**, including rare vintage Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Custom Shop builds, Gibson Custom Shop, PRS, Martin, Taylor and more.

Get clean, structured product data: title, brand, price, condition (New / Used / Vintage), year, serial number (where listed), availability, image and product URL.

### What it does

Two modes:

1. **Search mode** — pass one or more `searchQueries` (e.g. `"stratocaster"`, `"les paul"`, `"marshall"`); the scraper returns up to 10 matching products per query with full details.
2. **Collection mode** — leave `searchQueries` empty and set a `collection` handle to paginate through an entire category.

Useful collection handles:

| Handle | Contents |
|---|---|
| `all` | Entire catalog (~1,700 products) |
| `electric-guitars` | Electric guitars |
| `acoustic-guitars` | Acoustic guitars |
| `bass-guitars` | Bass guitars |
| `vintage` | Vintage instruments |
| `pre-owned` | Pre-owned (used) gear |
| `amplifiers` | Amplifiers |
| `effects` | Effects pedals |
| `new-arrivals` | Latest arrivals |
| `gibson-custom-shop` | Gibson Custom Shop |
| `fender-custom-shop` | Fender Custom Shop |

Any collection handle from themusiczoo.com works.

### Input

```json
{
    "searchQueries": ["les paul"],
    "collection": "electric-guitars",
    "maxItems": 100,
    "onlyAvailable": false
}
```

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `searchQueries` | array | Optional search terms. Leave empty to use collection mode. |
| `collection` | string | Collection handle (default `all`). Used only when no search queries given. |
| `maxItems` | integer | Max products to return (default 100). |
| `onlyAvailable` | boolean | Only return in-stock products (default false). |

### Output

One dataset record per product:

```json
{
    "productId": 8956472295759,
    "title": "1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunburst",
    "brand": "Gibson",
    "productType": "Electric Guitars",
    "price": "$379999.00",
    "priceNum": 379999,
    "compareAtPrice": null,
    "condition": "Vintage",
    "year": 1959,
    "serialNumber": "90320",
    "available": true,
    "availability": "In Stock",
    "sku": "8778-J",
    "imageUrl": "https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0916/0836/files/example.jpg",
    "url": "https://www.themusiczoo.com/products/1959-gibson-les-paul-standard-sunburst",
    "handle": "1959-gibson-les-paul-standard-sunburst",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-08-12T00:00:00.000Z"
}
```

- `condition` is derived from store tags: **Vintage**, **Used** (pre-owned), **B-Stock**, or **New**.
- `year` is parsed from the product title (e.g. "1959 Gibson Les Paul...").
- `serialNumber` is extracted from the product description when the shop lists it (common on vintage pieces).

### Use cases

- **Vintage guitar market tracking** — monitor prices on '50s–'70s Gibson, Fender and rare pieces.
- **Price comparison** — compare against Reverb, Chicago Music Exchange, and other dealers.
- **Inventory alerts** — watch `new-arrivals` for fresh vintage stock before it sells.
- **Dealer research** — brand/condition/price analytics across the full catalog.

### Notes

- No proxy required — the store serves open product JSON.
- Fast and cheap: typical runs finish in seconds.
- Out-of-stock items are included unless `onlyAvailable` is set.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Optional search terms (e.g. 'stratocaster', 'les paul', 'marshall'). Up to 10 matching products per query. Leave empty to scrape a collection instead.

## `collection` (type: `string`):

Collection handle to scrape when no search queries are given. Common handles: all, electric-guitars, acoustic-guitars, bass-guitars, vintage, pre-owned, amplifiers, effects, new-arrivals. Any themusiczoo.com collection handle works.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of products to return.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

Only return products that are currently in stock.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional proxy to use (not required — the site serves open JSON).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchQueries": [],
  "collection": "electric-guitars",
  "maxItems": 25,
  "onlyAvailable": false
}
```
