## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper & Google News API with Full Article Text

A **Google News scraper** and **news API** for news monitoring and media monitoring. Search **Google News** by keyword or topic in any country/language edition and get clean JSON: headline, publisher, **real publisher article URL** (decoded from the Google News RSS link), publish time, related stories in the same cluster, and optionally the **full article text**. Turns the Google News RSS feed into structured data with no browser, so it is fast and cheap: **$1 per 1,000 articles, $3 per 1,000 with full text**.

### What you get

- **Any query, any edition.** Keywords with Google operators (`site:reuters.com`, `"exact phrase"`, `-exclude`), in any language/country edition (`en`/`US`, `de`/`DE`, `pt-BR`/`BR`...).
- **Topics.** Top stories, World, Nation, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health.
- **Decoded publisher URLs.** Google News RSS only gives `news.google.com/rss/articles/...` links. This Actor resolves each one to the publisher's own URL with Google's own decoder, in batches.
- **Accurate time windows.** Relative ranges (past hour, day, week, month, year) or exact `dateFrom`/`dateTo` days. Results outside your window are dropped, so a "past day" search really is the past day.
- **Go past 100 results.** Google News returns about 100 headlines per feed. Turn on **Split by day** with a date range and the Actor fetches one feed per day, deduplicated.
- **Full text (optional).** Fetches each publisher page and extracts the readable body with Mozilla Readability, plus author, excerpt, lead image and the page's own publish time. Paywalled or bot-blocking sites return a short or empty body with the reason in `fullTextError`.

### Pricing

Pay per result:

- **$1.00 per 1,000 articles** (headline, publisher, decoded URL, publish time).
- **$3.00 per 1,000 articles with full text** in total: the $1 article price plus a $2 per 1,000 full-text add-on. The add-on is only charged when text was actually extracted.
- A tiny start fee of $0.00005 per run.

### Input example

```json
{
    "queries": ["nvidia", "site:reuters.com openai"],
    "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY"],
    "language": "en",
    "country": "US",
    "timeRange": "1d",
    "maxArticlesPerQuery": 100,
    "includeFullText": false
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
    "query": "nvidia",
    "searchType": "query",
    "position": 1,
    "title": "Nvidia, worth $5.5tn, donates $250m to UK for AI safety research",
    "publisher": "The Guardian",
    "publisherUrl": "https://www.theguardian.com",
    "url": "https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/oct/14/nvidia-donates-to-uk-ai-safety-research",
    "domain": "theguardian.com",
    "urlDecoded": true,
    "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...?oc=5",
    "publishedAt": "2026-10-14T12:49:00.000Z",
    "relatedArticles": [],
    "language": "en-US",
    "country": "US",
    "duplicateOfEarlierSearch": false,
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-14T14:30:00.000Z"
}
```

With full text on, each item also has `text`, `wordCount`, `author`, `excerpt`, `siteName`, `lang`, `leadImageUrl`, `publishedTime` and `fullTextError`.

A `RUN_SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists per-search counts, URLs decoded, full-text successes and any failures.

### Tips and limits

- Results come from Google News's public RSS feeds, in Google's relevance order.
- Dates are UTC days. Google sometimes lists a story under a slightly different time than the publisher page; both are in the output (`publishedAt` from Google, `publishedTime` from the page).
- Full article text is copyrighted by its publishers. Use it for your own analysis, monitoring or research.
- If Google rate-limits the run's IP (HTTP 429), the Actor switches to Apify Proxy automatically.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Google News search phrases, one per line. Supports Google operators like site:reuters.com or "exact phrase".

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Optional topic sections instead of (or with) queries: TOP, WORLD, NATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, SCIENCE, HEALTH.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Interface language (hl), e.g. en, en-GB, de, es, fr, pt-BR.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Edition country as ISO-2 (gl), e.g. US, GB, DE, BR, IN.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Relative window Google News understands. Ignored when dateFrom/dateTo are set.

## `dateFrom` (type: `string`):

Optional absolute start day (UTC). Uses Google's after: operator. Prefer this over timeRange for calendar windows.

## `dateTo` (type: `string`):

Optional absolute end day (UTC). Uses Google's before: operator.

## `maxArticlesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Cap per search or topic. Google News RSS returns about 100 headlines per feed page; for longer ranges turn on Split by day.

## `splitByDay` (type: `boolean`):

When dateFrom/dateTo are set (or the cap is over 100), fetch one RSS page per day so you can go deeper than a single feed page. More Google requests.

## `decodeUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Resolve each Google News link to the real publisher URL. Turn off only if you just need titles.

## `includeFullText` (type: `boolean`):

Fetch each publisher page and extract readable text (Mozilla Readability). Frame the text as for your own analysis; many sites block bots.

## `includeRelated` (type: `boolean`):

Keep the related headlines Google News lists under each story.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

Polite spacing for Google News RSS and URL decoding. Raise this if you hit HTTP 429.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel page fetches for URL decoding and full-text extraction.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Left empty, the Actor uses the Apify datacenter IP and switches to Apify Proxy automatically on Google HTTP 429/403.
