## News and Media Mention Monitor

Watch Google News for your company, your competitors, people, or any topic. Enter the search terms, and get one row per article: the headline, the outlet, the date, the publisher's own URL and domain, and a headline sentiment label.

Run it on a schedule with `only_new` on, and each run returns only the articles it has not returned before. An article you already have is skipped and not charged.

Rows are flat and snake_case, so they load straight into a spreadsheet, a CRM, a Slack alert, or a Clay table.

### ✨ Features

- **Search terms in, articles out.** Company names, brands, people, or topics; up to 50 per run. Google News search words work, such as quotes for an exact phrase, `OR`, and `site:`.
- **The publisher's own URL.** Google News hands out news.google.com links. This actor turns each one into the publisher's real article URL and domain, so you can open, dedupe, and filter by outlet.
- **Only new articles.** With `only_new` on, a run skips every article an earlier run with the same `state_key` returned. The memory lives in a key-value store in your own Apify account.
- **One row per article.** An article found by two of your search terms comes back once, with both terms in `matched_queries`.
- **Headline sentiment.** `positive`, `negative`, `mixed`, or `neutral` from a fixed word list, so the same headline always gets the same label.
- **30 country editions and any language code.** Default US English.
- **No key, no login.** Public Google News pages only.

When a run returns no article, it returns one free `summary` row instead: `no_results` (nothing matched), `no_new` (everything matched was returned before), or `blocked` (Google News did not answer), with `articles_found` and `articles_returned`.

- An article skipped by `only_new` is not charged. A summary row is free, and so is the row for a refused input; the start fee is charged on every run that starts.
- An article whose publisher URL could not be resolved is still charged, because the headline, outlet, date, and Google News link are delivered. `publisher_url_status` says `not_resolved`.
- A run stops before any charge that would pass `max_charge_usd`, and at the maximum cost per run you set in Apify.
- Free Apify plan: 1.50 USD of evaluation a month for this actor, which is 652 articles at the free plan price. Any paid Apify plan removes the cap.

### ⚠️ Limitations

- Google News returns at most 100 articles per search term, so a very broad term inside a long window is cut at 100. Narrow the term or the window.
- Google News decides what counts as a match. A short or common name matches unrelated stories; put it in quotes and add a word, or use `exclude_terms`.
- The publisher URL comes from a call Google News's own article page makes. Google can change it without notice; when it fails, the row says `not_resolved` and keeps the Google News link.
- Sentiment reads the headline only, with a fixed word list. It is a sorting aid, not a judgment of the article.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

1 to 50 company names, brands, people, or topics. Each one is a Google News search. Put a phrase in double quotes for an exact match, for example "Acme Robotics". Google News search words work too, such as OR and site:techcrunch.com.

## `exclude_terms` (type: `array`):

Optional, up to 20. An article whose headline or text Google matches with one of these words is left out of every search, for example a person or product that shares your company's name.

## `since_days` (type: `string`):

How many days back to search, from 1 to 90. Default 7.

## `country` (type: `string`):

The Google News country edition, as a two letter code. Default US.

## `language` (type: `string`):

The language code of the edition, for example en, de, fr, es, or pt-419. Default en.

## `resolve_publisher_url` (type: `string`):

true (default): each article's news.google.com link is turned into the publisher's own URL and domain. false: faster, and publisher_url stays empty. The price is the same either way.

## `only_new` (type: `string`):

true (default): an article returned by an earlier run with the same state key is skipped and not charged. false: every matching article is returned, with is_new saying whether it is new.

## `state_key` (type: `string`):

Optional. A name for this watch list, for example acme-weekly. Runs with the same key share one memory of returned articles. Empty: the key is made from the search terms, country, and language. The memory is kept in a key-value store in your own Apify account.

## `max_articles` (type: `string`):

From 1 to 100. Default 50. Newest articles first.

## `max_charge_usd` (type: `string`):

Optional. The run stops before any charge that would pass this amount and keeps the rows already returned.

## `source_tag` (type: `string`):

Internal attribution tag. Leave empty.
