## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Local Business Leads Finder - Emails, Phones & Websites (OpenStreetMap)

Find **local businesses by category and city** and get a ready-to-use contact list: **business name, address, phone, website, company email**, social profiles, opening hours and map coordinates.

Pick a category (dentists, restaurants, lawyers, plumbers, hotels, gyms and 30+ more), add one or more cities, and the actor:

1. loads every matching business from **OpenStreetMap**, the open map database used by thousands of apps,
2. visits each **business website** (home page plus contact and about pages) to find **public company emails** such as `info@` and `office@`, including Cloudflare-protected and "name \[at] domain \[dot] com" addresses,
3. checks that each **email domain has a mail server** (MX record), so you can skip dead addresses before you send.

No login, no API keys, no Google Maps limits. **$2.00 per 1000 businesses**, and with "Only businesses with an email" turned on you pay only for leads that have an email.

### Why this actor

- **Honest data, not a "B2B database" promise.** Many lead finders promise millions of decision-maker contacts and then return empty or outdated rows. This actor returns exactly what is publicly listed for each business, with the source of every email (`openstreetmap` or `website`).
- **Company emails only by default.** Generic business addresses (info@, office@, sales@, reception@) are returned; addresses that look like a person's name are skipped unless you turn them on. This keeps your list cleaner and closer to GDPR-friendly B2B outreach.
- **MX-checked emails.** `emailMxValid` tells you whether the email domain can receive mail.
- **Works worldwide and stays stable.** OpenStreetMap is open data with no anti-bot walls, and the actor switches between several public OpenStreetMap servers automatically when one is busy.
- **Pay only for what you keep.** Turn on `onlyWithEmail` and businesses without an email are skipped and not charged.
- **Only new businesses mode.** Schedule it daily or weekly with "Only new businesses" on and you get (and pay for) only businesses that appeared since the last run. Perfect for a steady stream of fresh leads.
- **38 ready categories plus any OpenStreetMap tag** (`shop=bicycle`, `craft=brewery`, `office=consulting`).

### Use cases

- **Cold email and outreach lists** for agencies, SaaS and B2B services selling to local businesses
- **Local SEO and web design prospecting:** find businesses with outdated websites or no website at all (`websiteStatus: "no website"`)
- **Market research:** count and map competitors in a city or region
- **Sales territory planning** with coordinates and Google Maps links
- **Enriching CRMs** with phones, websites and social profiles

#### Example input

```json
{
  "categories": ["dentists"],
  "locations": ["Austin, Texas", "Denver, Colorado"],
  "maxResults": 500,
  "onlyWithEmail": true
}
```

### Output

One row per business. Example:

```json
{
  "name": "Smile Dental Studio",
  "category": "amenity=dentist",
  "address": "123 Main St, 78701 Austin",
  "phone": "+1 512 555 0100",
  "website": "https://smiledental.example",
  "email": "info@smiledental.example",
  "emails": ["info@smiledental.example", "billing@smiledental.example"],
  "emailSource": "website",
  "emailMxValid": true,
  "facebook": "https://www.facebook.com/smiledental",
  "instagram": "https://www.instagram.com/smiledental",
  "openingHours": "Mo-Fr 08:00-17:00",
  "latitude": 30.2672,
  "longitude": -97.7431,
  "googleMapsUrl": "https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=30.2672,-97.7431",
  "osmUrl": "https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/123456789",
  "websiteStatus": "ok"
}
```

Download the results as **Excel, CSV, JSON or Google Sheets**, or connect them to your CRM with Make, Zapier, n8n or the Apify API. A run summary (businesses found, saved, with email, per location) is saved as `RUN_SUMMARY`.

### Pricing

**$2.00 per 1000 saved businesses**, no start fee. Website scanning, MX checks and filtering are included. Use `maxResults` to cap the cost of a run, and `onlyWithEmail` to pay only for leads with an email.

### Good to know

- **Coverage depends on OpenStreetMap.** Big cities in Europe and North America are mapped very well; small towns may have fewer businesses than Google Maps. Combine several nearby locations for more results.
- **Not every business publishes an email.** Typically 30-60% of businesses that have a website show a public email. Phones and websites come straight from OpenStreetMap.
- **No decision-maker names.** This actor finds public company contacts, not personal data of employees.
- Websites that are down or block visitors are reported in `websiteStatus` and the business is still saved with its OpenStreetMap data.

### FAQ

**Is this a Google Maps scraper?** No. It uses OpenStreetMap, which is open data and has no scraping limits. Results are usually a bit smaller than Google Maps, but runs are stable, cheap and include websites and emails.

**Which categories are supported?** 38 built-in categories (restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels, dentists, doctors, pharmacies, vets, lawyers, accountants, real estate, insurance, IT companies, marketing agencies, architects, travel agencies, hairdressers, beauty salons, gyms, car repair, car dealers, plumbers, electricians, builders, florists, bakeries, supermarkets, clothing, furniture, hardware, electronics, opticians, photographers, schools, kindergartens, coworking, event venues, pet shops) plus any OpenStreetMap tag.

**How do I get fresh leads every week?** Turn on `onlyNewBusinesses` and create a schedule in Apify (Schedules, for example every Monday). Each run returns only businesses that were not in earlier runs with the same categories and locations, so you never pay twice for the same lead.

**Can I search a whole country?** Yes, but large areas take longer. For best results use regions or cities.

### Legal

Business data comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License, ODbL) and from public pages of business websites. Only company contact details that businesses publish themselves are collected. If you use the data for marketing, follow the laws of your recipients' countries (for example GDPR, ePrivacy and CAN-SPAM): send relevant B2B messages, identify yourself and honor opt-out requests. Do not use the data for spam.
