# Bulk Domain Lookup — WHOIS/RDAP, Expiry, DNS (`masahishop/domain-lookup`) Actor

Look up many domains at once via official RDAP (the WHOIS successor): registered or available, registrar, creation and expiry dates, domain age, nameservers, DNSSEC, plus A/AAAA/MX/NS/TXT records. No personal data. $1 per 1,000 domains.

## Pricing

from $0.85 / 1,000 domain looked ups

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Domain Lookup — WHOIS/RDAP, Expiry, DNS

Check **hundreds or thousands of domains at once**: is it registered or available, who is the registrar, when was it created, **when does it expire**, which nameservers and mail servers does it use. **$1 per 1,000 domains.**

Uses **RDAP** — the official, machine-readable successor of WHOIS run by the registries themselves (located via IANA's bootstrap registry) — plus live DNS lookups.

### What can it be used for?

- **Domain portfolio monitoring**: expiry dates and days until expiry for all your domains (run it on a schedule)
- **Availability checks** for name ideas (`registered: false`)
- **Lead and market research**: domain age, registrar, hosting / email provider (from NS and MX records)
- **Security and brand protection**: check look-alike domains, DNSSEC status
- **Data cleaning**: validate domains in a CRM or spreadsheet

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `domains` | Domains or URLs (`https://www.example.com/page` → `example.com`) |
| `includeDns` | A, AAAA, MX, NS records (default on) |
| `includeTxt` | TXT records such as SPF (default off) |
| `maxConcurrency` | Parallel lookups (each RDAP server is additionally rate-limited politely) |

### Output

```json
{
    "input": "apify.com",
    "domain": "apify.com",
    "status": "success",
    "rdapAvailable": true,
    "registered": true,
    "registrar": "Amazon Registrar, Inc.",
    "registrarIanaId": "468",
    "createdAt": "2009-06-02T17:14:10Z",
    "updatedAt": "2026-05-16T16:53:04Z",
    "expiresAt": "2035-06-02T17:14:10Z",
    "ageDays": 6334,
    "daysUntilExpiry": 3161,
    "domainStatus": ["client transfer prohibited"],
    "nameservers": ["ns-1225.awsdns-25.org", "ns-1928.awsdns-49.co.uk", "ns-449.awsdns-56.com", "ns-839.awsdns-40.net"],
    "dnssec": true,
    "dns": {
        "a": ["3.165.11.13", "..."],
        "aaaa": ["2600:9000:26ef:b200:9:a03e:6540:93a1", "..."],
        "mx": [{ "priority": 1, "exchange": "aspmx.l.google.com" }, "..."],
        "ns": ["ns-1225.awsdns-25.org", "..."]
    }
}
```

An unregistered domain returns `"registered": false`.

### Coverage

RDAP covers all generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org, .dev, .app, .ai, .xyz, ...) and many country TLDs (.uk, .kr, .tw, ...). **Some country TLDs (for example .jp, .de, .io, .co, .cn) have no public RDAP service**: for those the result has `"rdapAvailable": false` and contains DNS information only (whether the domain resolves, its nameservers and mail servers). We do not scrape registry WHOIS servers whose terms forbid bulk use.

### Privacy

Only the **registrar** is returned. Registrant and contact details (personal data) are intentionally **not** included, even when an RDAP server provides them.

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Domain looked up | $0.001 ($1 per 1,000) |

Invalid domain names are not charged. Platform usage is included.
