## Pricing

from $0.17 / 1,000 item returneds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader — Cheap, Monitor New Items

Read any number of **RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF) and Atom** feeds into clean, consistent JSON — and **monitor feeds on a schedule, getting only the new items**.

- **One format for every feed**: title, link, published date (ISO 8601), author, categories, summary, enclosures (podcast audio, images)
- **Only new items** since the last run — perfect for scheduled monitoring, Slack/email alerts and news pipelines
- **Date filter** (`sinceDate`)
- **Japanese, Chinese & Korean feeds decoded correctly** — including legacy Shift_JIS / EUC-JP / GBK / Big5 feeds and RSS 1.0 (RDF), which is still common on Japanese sites
- **Cheap**: $0.0005 per feed + $0.0002 per item

### What can it be used for?

- News, blog and release-note **monitoring** (run on an Apify schedule with "Only new items")
- Feeding articles into **LLM summaries, RAG or newsletters**
- Collecting **podcast episodes** (enclosure URLs)
- Tracking **Japanese / Asian media** feeds without garbled text

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `feedUrls` | RSS / Atom feed URLs |
| `maxItemsPerFeed` | Default 100 |
| `sinceDate` | Only items published since this date, e.g. `2026-10-01` |
| `onlyNewItems` | Return only items not returned before for the same feed list |
| `includeContent` | Also return full content HTML when available |
| `respectRobotsTxt`, `timeoutSecs` | Politeness and limits |

### Output (one item per feed entry)

```json
{
    "type": "item",
    "feedUrl": "https://b.hatena.ne.jp/hotentry/it.rss",
    "feedTitle": "はてなブックマーク - 人気エントリー - テクノロジー",
    "feedFormat": "rss 1.0 (rdf)",
    "charset": "utf-8",
    "title": "...",
    "link": "https://...",
    "guid": "https://...",
    "published": "2026-10-06T03:12:00.000Z",
    "author": null,
    "categories": ["テクノロジー"],
    "summary": "...",
    "enclosures": []
}
```

Feeds that cannot be read produce one item with `"type": "feed", "status": "failed"` and an `error` message (not charged).

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Feed read (per successfully read feed) | $0.0005 |
| Item returned (per feed entry in the output) | $0.0002 |

Example: 50 feeds × 20 items = $0.225. Failed feeds are not charged. Platform usage is included.

### Tips for monitoring

1. Save your feed list as an Apify **Task** with `onlyNewItems: true`.
2. Add a **Schedule** (e.g. every hour).
3. Connect an integration (Slack, email, webhook) to get notified about new items.

The first run returns the current items; later runs return only what is new.

# Actor input Schema

## `feedUrls` (type: `array`):

RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0 (RDF) or Atom feed URLs.

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Newest items first, as ordered in the feed.

## `sinceDate` (type: `string`):

Optional date, e.g. <code>2026-10-01</code>. Items without a date are kept.

## `onlyNewItems` (type: `boolean`):

For scheduled monitoring: returns only items not returned before for the same list of feeds. Seen item IDs are kept in a key-value store named <code>rss-reader-cjk-state</code> in your account.

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Also return the item's full HTML content (content:encoded / Atom content) when the feed provides it.

## `respectRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):

Skip feeds that the site disallows for automated access.

## `timeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Maximum time to download one feed.
