## Pricing

from $1.20 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Monitor - Studies, Status, Phases & Conditions

> Search and monitor **ClinicalTrials.gov** studies through the official **API v2**. No API key required.

### What it does

Queries `https://clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/studies` and returns one normalized row per study: NCT id, titles, overall status, phases, conditions, key dates, organization, and a source link.

### Who it's for

- Clinical / medical affairs teams tracking competing trials
- Biopharma BD and competitive-intelligence analysts
- Researchers building trial cohorts by condition or phase
- Developers who want structured CT.gov data without maintaining query plumbing

### Output

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `nctId` | ClinicalTrials.gov identifier |
| `briefTitle` / `officialTitle` | Study titles |
| `overallStatus` | e.g. RECRUITING, COMPLETED |
| `phases` | Phase list when present |
| `conditions` | Condition list |
| `startDate` / `lastUpdatePostDate` | Key dates |
| `organization` | Lead organization name |
| `sourceUrl` | Official study page |

### Input

- **Search query** - free text (default demo: `diabetes` when empty)
- **Condition** - optional `query.cond`
- **Statuses / Phases** - optional filters
- **Max results** - default 25 (fast sample)
- **Max run seconds** - wall-clock budget (default 240)

### Pricing note

Runs are billed per dataset row on Apify. New accounts can usually cover small default runs with monthly free credits.

### Limitations

- Uses only the public v2 API; does not scrape the website HTML.
- Some studies omit phase or dates; those fields are null when absent.
- Does not interpret eligibility criteria or results modules in this version.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

Free-text ClinicalTrials.gov query (condition, intervention, sponsor, NCT id, etc.). Leave blank to use the default diabetes sample so an empty run still returns rows.

## `condition` (type: `string`):

Optional condition filter (query.cond). Combined with the free-text query.

## `statuses` (type: `array`):

Optional overallStatus filters such as RECRUITING, ACTIVE\_NOT\_RECRUITING, COMPLETED, TERMINATED. Leave empty for any status.

## `phases` (type: `array`):

Optional phase filters such as PHASE1, PHASE2, PHASE3, PHASE4, EARLY\_PHASE1, NA.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound on study rows returned. Default is a fast representative sample.

## `pageSize` (type: `integer`):

ClinicalTrials.gov v2 pageSize (max 1000). Keep modest for default runs.

## `maxRunSeconds` (type: `integer`):

Wall-clock budget. When reached the Actor stops cleanly with rows already collected.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "query": "diabetes",
  "maxResults": 25,
  "pageSize": 25,
  "maxRunSeconds": 240
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per ClinicalTrials.gov study from the official v2 API.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Totals, pagination and time-budget diagnostics.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "query": "diabetes"
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("maydit/clinicaltrials-gov-monitor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
