## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Podcast Directory & New-Show Finder (Apple Podcasts + RSS)

Build targeted podcast lists in minutes. Search Apple Podcasts by keyword or pull any **Apple top chart** by genre and country, then enrich each show from its public RSS feed: **episode count, posting cadence, last and first episode dates, active/dormant status, average episode length, language, categories, website**, and Podcasting 2.0 flags (transcripts, funding).

### Use cases

- **Guest booking / PR:** "active real-estate shows that posted in the last 30 days, 50+ episodes"
- **Sponsorship sales:** chart rank plus cadence for every show in a genre
- **New-show feed:** `newShowsWithinDays: 30` finds launches before the big directories rank them

### Input

`searchTerms`, `chartGenreIds` (1321 Business, 1318 Technology, 1304 Education, 1303 Comedy, 1489 News, 1545 Sports…), `country`, `maxPerQuery` (≤200), `enrichFromRss`, and filters `activeWithinDays`, `newShowsWithinDays`, `minEpisodes`, `language`.

### Sample output

```json
{"title":"Real Estate Investing with Coach Carson","publisher":"Chad Carson","primaryGenre":"Investing","appleUrl":"https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/...",
 "episodeCountInFeed":523,"latestEpisodeDate":"2026-10-05T09:00:00.000Z","firstEpisodeDate":"2019-01-15T05:01:28.000Z",
 "medianDaysBetweenEpisodes":7,"avgEpisodeMinutes":42,"language":"en","feedCategories":["Business","Investing"],
 "daysSinceLastEpisode":6,"isActive":true,"website":"https://..."}
```

### Data sources and privacy

- Apple's official iTunes Search / Lookup API and Apple's public top-podcasts RSS, plus each show's public RSS feed. No login, no scraping of web pages.
- **No personal contact data**: host/owner emails in RSS (`itunes:owner`) are deliberately not collected. Use the show's `website` for outreach.
- `firstEpisodeDate` / `showAgeDays` are based on the oldest episode *still in the feed*. Some hosts trim old episodes, so treat "new show" results as a strong hint, not proof.
- Apple's Search API allows about 20 calls per minute, so the Actor pauses 3 s between keywords.
