## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Image Alt Text & Media Weight Auditor

Give it a list of page URLs and it reports every image with an accessibility or weight problem: missing alt attribute, empty alt on non-decorative images, generic alt text (like "image", "photo", "IMG_1234" or a file name), missing width/height attributes (a layout-shift risk), and files heavier than a threshold you set. Export the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON.

It fetches only the pages you list and the image files they reference. It does not crawl, does not download image bodies when the server reports the size in headers, and uses no browser, so JavaScript-rendered images are not seen.

### Input

- `urls` (required): page URLs, up to 100.
- `checkImageSizes`: read file sizes via HEAD requests (default on).
- `maxImageKB`: flag images over this size (default 200).
- `onlyIssues`: output only images with problems (default on).
- `genericAltWords`: extra alt values to treat as generic.
- `maxImagesPerPage`, `requestDelaySeconds`, `timeoutSeconds`.

### Output example

```json
{
  "pageUrl": "https://example.com/blog/post",
  "imageUrl": "https://example.com/img/hero.jpg",
  "alt": "image",
  "issues": "generic_alt, missing_width_height, large_file",
  "issueCount": 3,
  "fileSizeBytes": 482113,
  "fileSizeKB": 470.8,
  "contentType": "image/jpeg",
  "widthAttr": null,
  "heightAttr": null,
  "loading": null,
  "sizeCheckNote": null
}
```

Issue codes: `missing_alt`, `empty_alt`, `generic_alt`, `long_alt` (over 125 characters), `missing_width_height`, `large_file`, `broken_image`. Images with `alt=""` plus `role="presentation"` or `aria-hidden="true"` are treated as decorative and not flagged. 1x1 tracking pixels are skipped.

### Pricing

$0.005 per result (one result = one image row in the dataset). Pages with no issues produce no rows when `onlyIssues` is on, so you pay only for findings.

### Limits

- Up to 100 URLs per run and 1000 images per page.
- Static HTML only; images injected by JavaScript are not detected.
- Pages or images disallowed by the site's robots.txt are skipped. Pages that fail to load are logged and skipped, not output.
- Requests are sequential with a configurable delay and are sent with the User-Agent `ImageAltTextAuditorBot/0.1`.
- File size comes from the Content-Length header; if absent, up to 10 MB of the image is streamed to count it.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Pages to audit (http/https, up to 100). Only these pages and the image files they reference are fetched.

## `checkImageSizes` (type: `boolean`):

Request each image's headers to read its file size. Turn off for a faster, alt-text-only audit.

## `maxImageKB` (type: `integer`):

Images larger than this are flagged as large_file.

## `onlyIssues` (type: `boolean`):

When on, images with no problems are not output (and not charged).

## `genericAltWords` (type: `array`):

Additional alt values to treat as generic, e.g. 'hero', 'slide'. Matched case-insensitively against the whole alt text.

## `maxImagesPerPage` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of img tags examined per page (1-1000).

## `requestDelaySeconds` (type: `integer`):

Pause between page fetches and before each image request, to stay polite.

## `timeoutSeconds` (type: `integer`):

Timeout for each HTTP request (3-120).

  "timeoutSeconds": 20
}

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("mellora/image-alt-text-auditor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
