## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Dailymotion Scraper: Videos, Channels, Playlists & Search

Search **Dailymotion videos** by keyword and get full **video details, channel profiles and playlists** as clean rows, for **$1.50 per 1,000 videos**. Sort search by newest or most viewed, limit it to today, this week, this month or this year, and pull **views, likes, tags, category, duration and upload time** for any video link. Channels come with **followers, video count and their 100 newest videos with view counts**. No login, no Dailymotion API key.

![How the Dailymotion Scraper works](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/acXDa8iQqPBpZbZNY/records/how-it-works-dailymotion.png)

```json
{
  "searchKeywords": ["football highlights"],
  "searchSort": "newest",
  "searchDateRange": "week",
  "channelUrls": ["https://www.dailymotion.com/wired"]
}
```

| Input | Rows |
|---|---|
| Search keyword | Up to 100 videos: title, link, duration, upload time, thumbnail, live flag, channel (no view counts) |
| Video link | One video with views, likes, tags, category, description, duration and channel |
| Channel link | One channel row (followers, video count, description, avatar, 5 newest videos) plus up to 100 newest videos with views and likes |
| Playlist link | One playlist row (name, owner, video count) plus its first 20 videos with views and likes |

### Why Use This Scraper?

- **Views and likes for whole channels.** One channel link returns its 100 newest videos with view counts, likes, tags and categories, at the bulk price.
- **Search with real filters.** Newest first or most viewed, and an upload window of a day, week, month or year.
- **Less than half the usual price.** $0.0015 per video from search, channels and playlists; the other Dailymotion scraper on the Store charges $0.004 to $0.0048.
- **Clean rows.** Counts are numbers, dates are ISO 8601, descriptions are plain text with the HTML removed, and every row has a `type`.

### Use Cases

- **Media monitoring:** follow what publishers and news channels uploaded this week and how it performs.
- **Competitor and channel benchmarking:** followers, upload rate and views per video across a list of channels.
- **Sports and entertainment research:** find the newest highlight clips for a match, team or show.
- **Content discovery for editors and agencies:** collect videos on a topic with their channels and tags.
- **Dataset building:** titles, tags, categories and durations for video classification or trend analysis.

### How It Works

1. Every link is sorted into video, channel or playlist, whichever field it was put in.
2. Up to four lookups run at once; each takes about 40 seconds. A search answers up to 100 videos in one lookup.
3. A channel link makes two lookups: the profile and the list of newest videos.
4. Every row is charged as it is delivered, and the run stops cleanly at your row limit or spending limit.

### Input Configuration

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `searchKeywords` | array | Keywords to search videos for. |
| `searchSort` | string | `relevance` (default), `newest` or `most_viewed`. |
| `searchDateRange` | string | Empty for any time, or `today`, `week`, `month`, `year`. |
| `maxResultsPerKeyword` | integer | 5 to 100. Default 50. |
| `videoUrls` | array | dailymotion.com/video/… or dai.ly/… links, or bare ids such as `x8pkoru`. |
| `channelUrls` | array | Channel pages such as `https://www.dailymotion.com/wired`, or just `wired`. |
| `maxVideosPerChannel` | integer | Newest videos per channel, 5 to 100; 0 returns the profile only. Default 100. |
| `playlistUrls` | array | dailymotion.com/playlist/… links. |
| `maxItems` | integer | Cap on all rows. Default 5,000; free-plan runs return up to 100. |

### Key Output Fields

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `type` | `video`, `channel` or `playlist` |
| `source` | Where a video row came from: `search`, `video`, `channel` or `playlist` |
| `views`, `likes` | View and like counts; `null` on search rows, which the source answers without them |
| `uploadedAt` | Upload time, ISO 8601 UTC |
| `durationSec` | Length in seconds |
| `position` | Place in the search results, channel list or playlist |
| `followers`, `videoCount` | Channel audience and number of videos |
| `videosReturned` | How many of a playlist's videos came back as rows (at most 20) |

### FAQ

**Why do search results have no view counts?**
Dailymotion search answers titles, links, durations and channels only. Put the video links in `videoUrls`, or the channel in `channelUrls`, to get views and likes.

**How many videos can I get per keyword or channel?**
Up to 100 per keyword and 100 per channel (the newest ones). There are no further pages, so for more search results add related keywords, and for older channel videos use the channel's playlists.

**Does "most viewed" sort by all-time views?**
It uses Dailymotion's own most-viewed order. Combine it with `searchDateRange` for the most viewed videos of a period.

**How many videos does a playlist return?**
The first 20. `videoCount` on the playlist row tells you how many it has in total.

**Can I get comments?**
No. Dailymotion has comments switched off, and every comment lookup we tried came back empty, so this actor does not offer them.

**Can I download the video files?**
No. This actor returns data, not video files.

**Do I need a Dailymotion account or API key?**
No.

### Pricing

| Event | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Actor start | Once per run (per GB of memory, 256 MB default) | $0.005 |
| Video | Each video from a search, a channel's video list or a playlist | $0.0015 |
| Video detail | Each video looked up by its own link | $0.0075 |
| Channel | Each channel profile | $0.0075 |
| Playlist | Each playlist row (its videos are billed as Video) | $0.006 |

Example: the 100 newest videos of 10 channels with their profiles cost 1,000 × $0.0015 + 10 × $0.0075 + $0.005 = $1.58.
