## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Spotify Play Count Scraper: Playlists, Albums, Artists & Tracks

Get **all-time Spotify play counts** for every track of a playlist or album in one go, for **$2 per 1,000 tracks**. Paste a playlist, album, artist or track link and get clean rows: play count, artists, duration, position, the date a track was added to the playlist, and the playlist's saves. Artists come with **monthly listeners, followers, world rank, top cities and top tracks**. No login, no Spotify API key: Spotify's official API does not return play counts at all.

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXcBWIGoYBM5M",
    "https://open.spotify.com/album/1NAmidJlEaVgA3MpcPFYGq",
    "https://open.spotify.com/artist/06HL4z0CvFAxyc27GXpf02"
  ]
}
```

| Input | Rows |
|---|---|
| Playlist link | One row per track, with its play count, position, date added and the playlist's saves |
| Album link | One row per track, with its play count, release date and label |
| Artist link | One row: monthly listeners, followers, world rank, 5 top cities, 10 top tracks with play counts, 20 related artists |
| Track link | One row: play count, album, label, release date |
| Search keyword | Tracks, artists, albums, playlists or podcasts matching it (no play counts) |

### Why Use This Scraper?

- **Play counts the official API does not give.** Spotify's Web API returns popularity scores, not stream numbers. This actor returns the real all-time counts shown in the Spotify app.
- **A whole playlist or album per lookup.** 50 tracks with play counts come back in one go, so you pay per track, not per request.
- **Half the usual price.** $0.002 per track with play counts; other Spotify play-count actors charge $0.004 to $0.005.
- **Artist audience in one row.** Monthly listeners, followers, world rank and the five cities that listen most, with listener counts.

### Use Cases

- **Music marketing and A\&R:** track how a release or a playlist placement grows plays.
- **Playlist pitching and curation:** compare the tracks on editorial playlists by streams and by the date they were added.
- **Royalty and catalog estimates:** play counts for every track of an album or a label's releases.
- **Artist benchmarking:** monthly listeners, world rank and top cities across a roster.
- **Podcast discovery:** find shows by topic with their episode counts.

### How It Works

1. Links are read four at a time. A playlist, album, artist or track lookup takes about 40 seconds.
2. Playlist and album lookups return every track with its play count; each track becomes a row.
3. Search keywords run after the links.
4. Every row is charged as it is delivered, and the run stops cleanly at your spending limit.

### Input Configuration

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `urls` | array | open.spotify.com playlist, album, artist or track links, or spotify: URIs. |
| `maxTracksPerList` | integer | Cap on tracks from one playlist or album. Default 500. |
| `searchKeywords` | array | Keywords to search. |
| `searchType` | string | `tracks`, `artists`, `albums`, `playlists`, `podcasts_shows` or `podcast_episodes_individual_episodes`. |
| `maxResultsPerKeyword` | integer | Up to 100. Default 50. |
| `maxItems` | integer | Cap on all rows. Default 5,000; free-plan runs return up to 100. |

#### Example input

    "https://open.spotify.com/artist/3TVXtAsR1Inumwj472S9r4"
  ]
}
```
Podcast shows about true crime:
```json
{
  "searchKeywords": ["true crime"],
  "searchType": "podcasts_shows",
  "maxResultsPerKeyword": 50
}
```
### Key Output Fields
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `type` | `track`, `artist` or `search-result` |
| `playCount` | All-time streams, as shown in the Spotify app |
| `sourceType` | Where a track row came from: `playlist`, `album` or `track` |
| `position` | The track's place in the playlist or album |
| `addedAt` | When the track was added to the playlist |
| `playlistSaves` | How many people saved the playlist |
| `monthlyListeners`, `worldRank` | Artist audience and Spotify's world ranking |
### FAQ
**Do search results include play counts?**
No. Spotify search answers names and links only. Put the playlist, album, artist or track link in `urls` to get play counts.
**How long can a playlist be?**
Playlists of up to about 100 tracks come back in under a minute. Much longer ones can take several minutes. A lookup that has not answered after 4 minutes is asked once more, and skipped (not charged) if the second try does not answer either.
**Why does a track sometimes have no play count?**
Spotify occasionally answers a single track without it. That row is billed at the basic track price ($0.002) instead of the track-lookup price. Looking up the track's album gets every play count reliably.
**Do I need a Spotify account or API key?**
No.
**Can I download the audio?**
No. This actor returns data, not music files.
### Pricing
| Event | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Actor start | Once per run (per GB of memory, 256 MB default) | $0.005 |
| Track | Each track of a playlist or album, with its play count | $0.002 |
| Track lookup | Each track looked up by its own link | $0.005 |
| Artist | Each artist profile | $0.006 |
| Search result | Each search hit | $0.002 |
Example: play counts for 20 playlists of 50 tracks cost 1,000 × $0.002 = $2.00.
# Actor input Schema
## `urls` (type: `array`):
Playlist, album, artist or track links from open.spotify.com (or spotify:playlist:… URIs). A playlist or album returns every track with its all-time play count. An artist returns monthly listeners, followers, world rank, top cities, top tracks with play counts and related artists. A track returns its play count, label and release date.
## `maxTracksPerList` (type: `integer`):
Cap on track rows from one playlist or album. Very long playlists (over ~100 tracks) can take minutes; a lookup with no answer after two tries of 4 minutes is skipped and not charged.
## `searchKeywords` (type: `array`):
Search Spotify. Search rows carry names, links and artists but no play counts or follower numbers; to get those, put the playlist, album, artist or track link above.
## `searchType` (type: `string`):
What the keywords search for.
## `maxResultsPerKeyword` (type: `integer`):
Up to 100.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Cap on all rows together. Free-plan runs return up to 100.
