# SEC EDGAR Filings Search & Monitor (8-K, 10-K, S-1) (`mmm_mita/sec-edgar-filings-monitor`) Actor

Search and monitor SEC EDGAR filings via the official EDGAR full-text search API. Filter by form type (8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, Form 4, 13D, D), company CIK, keyword or exact phrase and date. Get company, ticker, 8-K items, SIC, state and direct document links. Monitor mode returns only new filings.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What does SEC EDGAR Filings Search & Monitor do?

It searches **SEC EDGAR filings** (8-K, 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, Form 4, 13D/G, Form D and every other form type) through the **official EDGAR full-text search API** run by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. You get **one clean row per filing**: company, ticker, CIK, form, filing date, period, **8-K item numbers with plain-English descriptions**, SIC code, business and incorporation state, plus direct links to the main document and to the filing index.

Turn on **monitor mode** and schedule it daily to get **only new filings**, for example every new 8-K item 1.05 (cybersecurity incident), every S-1 or every 13D.

### How to use it

1. Pick **form types** (e.g. `8-K`) and/or add **company CIKs** (e.g. `320193` for Apple).
2. Optionally add a **full-text search**, for example `"going concern"` or `"material weakness"`.
3. Set **days back** or a start and end date, then run it. Export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or use the API and integrations.

### Input example

```json
{ "forms": ["8-K"], "query": "\"cybersecurity incident\"", "daysBack": 30, "maxItems": 200 }
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "accessionNumber": "0002115436-26-000013", "form": "8-K", "fileDate": "2026-10-16", "periodEnding": "2026-10-16",
  "companyName": "ExxonMobil Holdings Corp", "tickers": ["XOM"], "cik": "0002115436",
  "items": ["7.01"], "itemDescriptions": ["Regulation FD Disclosure"], "sicCodes": ["2911"], "businessStates": ["TX"],
  "documentUrl": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2115436/000211543626000013/xom-20261016.htm",
  "filingIndexUrl": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2115436/000211543626000013/0002115436-26-000013-index.htm"
}
```

### Data fields

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| accessionNumber | Unique EDGAR filing ID |
| form, rootForm, description | Form type and filing description |
| fileDate, periodEnding | Filing date and period of report |
| companyName, tickers, cik, entities | Filer(s) as listed by EDGAR |
| items, itemDescriptions | 8-K item numbers and their meaning |
| sicCodes, businessStates, businessLocations, incorporationStates, fileNumbers | Filer metadata |
| documentUrl, filingIndexUrl | Links to the matched document and the filing index |

### How much does it cost?

**$3.00 per 1,000 filings**, no start fee. One filing = one result, even if several of its documents match. In monitor mode the first run is a free **baseline** (stores existing filings, no output, no charge); later runs charge only new filings. Set a maximum cost per run; the actor stops cleanly at the limit and only remembers what it delivered. The $5 monthly credit on the Apify free plan covers about 1,650 filings.

### Limits

- EDGAR full-text search covers filings from 2001 onwards and returns at most **10,000 matches per search**; narrow forms, CIKs or dates for more.
- Requests follow the SEC fair-access policy (declared User-Agent, well under 10 requests/second). You can add your contact e-mail to the User-Agent in the input.

### Data source and terms
