## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Filings & Financials API: 8-K, 10-K, 10-Q and XBRL

A 20-row test run costs about $0.04 ($0.002 per filing row, plus a $0.00005 start fee). Apify's free plan includes monthly platform credit.

**Official SEC EDGAR data as clean JSON, without XML, CIK lookups or rate-limit headaches.** Pick a mode:

| Mode | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| `companyFilings` | Recent filings for each ticker (8-K by default, or any form: 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, DEF 14A, SC 13D…), with 8-K item codes and descriptions and direct document links | $0.002 per filing |
| `marketFilings` | Every filing of the chosen forms across **all** companies in a date range, with an optional EDGAR **full-text keyword** search (e.g. `"share repurchase"`, `"going concern"`) | $0.002 per filing |
| `financials` | One row per company: revenue, gross/operating/net income, diluted EPS, operating cash flow, assets, liabilities, equity, cash, long-term debt, shares outstanding, margins, YoY growth and the latest quarter, from XBRL | $0.005 per company |

Looking for insider trades? Use our sister Actor **[SEC Form 4 Insider Trading Scraper](https://apify.com/monriah-studio/sec-form4-insider-trades)**.

Data comes only from official SEC sources (`company_tickers.json`, the `data.sec.gov` submissions and XBRL APIs, and `efts.sec.gov` full-text search). The Actor sends a declared User-Agent and stays under SEC's 10 requests/second fair-access limit. No login, no proxy. Not affiliated with the SEC. Not investment advice.

### Use cases

- **8-K event alerts**: schedule `marketFilings` daily with `items8K: ["5.02"]` (executive changes), `["1.05"]` (cybersecurity incidents), `["2.02"]` (earnings) or `["1.01"]` (material agreements), plus `onlyNewSinceLastRun: true`.
- **Watchlist monitoring**: `companyFilings` for your tickers, all forms, change detection on, sent to Slack, email or Google Sheets.
- **Keyword research**: find every 10-K mentioning "tariff" or every 8-K mentioning "share repurchase" this quarter.
- **Fundamentals for screens and AI agents**: `financials` gives an agent a compact, typed company snapshot in one call.

}
```
See `sample_output.json` for full rows. A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store lists the mode, dates, rows delivered and SEC requests made.
### Pricing
Pay per event: **$0.002 per filing row** ($2 per 1,000) and **$0.005 per company financial snapshot**. You pay only for rows written. Duplicates skipped by change detection, and tickers with no XBRL data, are not charged. Use `maxResults` or the run's max-charge setting to cap spend.
### Notes
- `companyFilings` reads the ~1,000 most recent filings EDGAR lists per company.
- `marketFilings` uses EDGAR full-text search, which covers 2001 onward and returns up to 10,000 hits per query. Narrow the date range for busy forms.
- XBRL values are as reported. Companies sometimes switch tags; `xbrlTagsUsed` shows which tag each metric came from.
