## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Tech Stack Detector: BuiltWith & Wappalyzer Alternative for Bulk Website Technology Lookup

**Find out what any website is built with, for thousands of sites at once.** Paste domains or URLs and get one clean row per website listing its technologies, grouped into ready-to-filter columns: **CMS** (WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace...), **e-commerce** (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce...), **analytics** (Google Analytics, GTM, Segment, Mixpanel, Hotjar...), **ad pixels** (Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn...), **marketing tools** (HubSpot, Klaviyo, Marketo, Mailchimp...), **live chat** (Intercom, Zendesk, Drift, Gorgias...), **payments**, **cookie consent**, **CDN**, **hosting** (Vercel, Netlify, WP Engine...) and **frameworks** (Next.js, React, Vue, Rails, Laravel...).

**240+ hand-written fingerprints** across 55 categories, with versions where the site exposes them. It makes one fast HTTP request per site and uses no browser, so 1,000 websites take a few minutes and cost a fraction of BuiltWith or Wappalyzer API plans. There's no API key or subscription.

### Who uses it

- **Sales and lead-gen teams.** Build lists like "Shopify stores using Klaviyo but no reviews app" or "WordPress sites without a cookie banner", then pitch the tool they're missing.
- **Agencies and freelancers.** Find prospects on outdated stacks (Wix, Weebly, old jQuery) for redesign and migration offers.
- **SaaS companies.** Track competitor adoption and find customers of competing tools for displacement campaigns.
- **Investors and market researchers.** Measure technology market share across a list of companies.
- **Data enrichment.** Add tech stack columns to your CRM accounts.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `websites` (required) | Domains, URLs or emails, one per line. Duplicates are removed. |
| `maxItems` | Analyse only the first N (for testing). |
| `chargeBlockedSites` | Off by default: sites that block bots return free rows with header-only results. |
| `maxConcurrency`, `requestTimeoutSecs` | Advanced tuning. |

```json
{ "websites": ["notion.so", "hubspot.com", "techcrunch.com", "https://www.allbirds.com"] }
```

### Output (one row per website)

Real result from a test run on 2026-10-30 (shortened):

```json
{
  "input": "notion.so",
  "status": "ok",
  "httpStatus": 200,
  "finalUrl": "https://www.notion.com/",
  "domain": "notion.com",
  "pageTitle": "The AI workspace that works for you. | Notion",
  "techCount": 7,
  "technologyNames": ["Cloudflare", "Contentful", "Vercel", "Next.js", "React", "Cloudflare Bot Management", "Tailwind CSS"],
  "technologies": [
    { "name": "Next.js", "category": "JavaScript framework", "version": null, "detectedVia": "html" },
    { "name": "Vercel", "category": "Hosting", "version": null, "detectedVia": "header:x-vercel-id" }
  ],
  "cms": ["Contentful"],
  "ecommerce": [],
  "analytics": [],
  "hosting": ["Vercel"],
  "cdn": ["Cloudflare"],
  "frameworks": ["Next.js", "React"],
  "webServer": null
}
```

Every detection includes `detectedVia` (header, cookie, meta, script or html), so you can see why a technology was flagged.

### Pricing (pay per event)

- **$1.50 per 1,000 websites analysed** ($0.0015 per site), plus Apify's tiny standard actor-start fee.
- **Failed sites are free**: unreachable domains, DNS errors, timeouts and bot-blocked pages (403/429) are returned with `status` and `error` but aren't charged.
- Example: enriching 10,000 leads costs **$15**.

### How it works and its limits

The Actor downloads each homepage once and matches response headers, cookies, `<meta>` tags, script URLs and the page markup against its fingerprint set. Visible page text is ignored, so a site that merely *mentions* Shopify isn't flagged as Shopify.

Because there's no browser, tools injected later by a tag manager (for example a pixel loaded only through Google Tag Manager) may not show up. Sites with aggressive bot protection may return only CDN and server information. For most business websites, the CMS, e-commerce platform, hosting, CDN, frameworks and most marketing tools are detected from the first response.

### FAQ

**Is it a Wappalyzer clone?** No. The fingerprints are an original rule set written for this Actor. It's built for the B2B use cases people buy BuiltWith and Wappalyzer for (lead lists, enrichment, competitive research), at a much lower price.

**Can I check subpages?** Yes. Pass a full URL, and that exact page is analysed.

**Can I schedule it?** Yes. Save a task, add a schedule, and connect Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier, Make or a webhook to track stack changes over time.

# Actor input Schema

## `websites` (type: `array`):

Domains or URLs, one per line (stripe.com, https://www.allbirds.com, shop.example.com/page). Emails also work (the domain is used). Duplicates are removed.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Only analyse the first N websites (handy for testing). 0 = all.

## `chargeBlockedSites` (type: `boolean`):

By default, sites that answer with an HTTP error (e.g. bot protection 403/429) are returned for free with whatever the headers reveal (CDN, server). Turn on only if you want those rows counted as normal results.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Maximum parallel HTTP requests. The default is polite and fast.

## `requestTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Per-request timeout. Failed requests are retried.

```json
{
  "websites": [
    "notion.so",
    "hubspot.com",
    "techcrunch.com"
  ],
  "maxItems": 0,
  "chargeBlockedSites": false,
  "maxConcurrency": 20,
  "requestTimeoutSecs": 20
}
