## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Edmunds Dealer Scraper

Builds a car-dealership business directory from Edmunds. Search by ZIP code and
radius and get one record per dealership — business name, street address, city,
state, ZIP, phone number, distance from your search origin, franchise id, and
the vehicle makes and inventory types found in the listings read for that
dealership.

Useful for dealer-network mapping, territory and franchise analysis, and
automotive sales prospecting lists.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `zip_code` | `90001` | US ZIP code used as the search origin. Each dealership carries its distance in miles from it. |
| `radius` | `50` | Search radius in miles (1–6000). Use a large value to sweep nationwide. |
| `inventory_type` | `used,cpo` | One of `used,cpo`, `used`, `cpo`, `new`. Pick `new` to find franchised new-car dealers. |
| `make` | `""` | Optional make slug (e.g. `honda`, `toyota`, `land-rover`) to return only dealerships advertising that make. |
| `limit` | `25` | Stop once this many distinct dealerships are collected (1–2000). |
| `max_pages` | `60` | Safety bound on how many result pages are read. |
| Proxy configuration | *(off)* | Optional. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results. |

### Output

One dataset record per dealership, for example (ZIP 90001, 50 miles):

```json
{
  "rooftop_id": 1932562,
  "dealer_name": "Gardena Nissan",
  "parent_dealership_name": "Mass Auto Group",
  "street": "1670 W Redondo Beach Blvd",
  "city": "Gardena",
  "state_code": "CA",
  "state_name": "California",
  "zip_code": "90247",
  "address_full": "1670 W Redondo Beach Blvd, Gardena, CA 90247",
  "phone": "310-961-2602",
  "phone_tracking": "657-298-4739",
  "distance_miles": 6.87,
  "franchise_id": "1932568",
  "rooftop_logical_name": "GardenaNissan_1932562",
  "is_direct_dealer": true,
  "makes_seen": ["Nissan"],
  "inventory_types_seen": ["CPO"],
  "listings_seen": 1,
  "raw": { ... }
}
```

And a second real record from the same run:

```json
{
  "rooftop_id": 870,
  "dealer_name": "Manhattan Beach Toyota",
  "parent_dealership_name": "",
  "street": "1500 N Sepulveda Blvd",
  "city": "Manhattan Beach",
  "state_code": "CA",
  "state_name": "California",
  "zip_code": "90266",
  "address_full": "1500 N Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266",
  "phone": "310-546-4848",
  "phone_tracking": "628-262-2492",
  "distance_miles": 10.44,
  "franchise_id": "745186",
  "rooftop_logical_name": "ManhattanBeachToyota_870",
  "is_direct_dealer": true,
  "makes_seen": ["Ford"],
  "inventory_types_seen": ["USED"],
  "listings_seen": 1,
  "raw": { ... }
}
```

### Notes

- Dealerships are discovered from live vehicle inventory, so a dealership only
  appears while it is advertising at least one vehicle matching your filters.
- `makes_seen` and `inventory_types_seen` list the makes and inventory types of
  the `listings_seen` vehicles this run read for that dealership. They are a
  sample of its stock, not everything it sells: a Toyota store whose one listing
  read was a used Ford shows `["Ford"]`. Raise `limit` and `max_pages` to read
  more listings per dealership.
- Dealerships come back in the order Edmunds ranks its listings, which is not
  strictly by distance. Sort on `distance_miles` for nearest first.
- `phone` is the dealership's own published number; `phone_tracking` is the
  call-tracking number shown on the listing page.
- Raising `limit` reads more result pages, so large sweeps take longer.
- Runs on empty input (dealerships within 50 miles of ZIP 90001).
- Scrape politely; respect edmunds.com Terms of Service.

# Actor input Schema

## `zip_code` (type: `string`):

US ZIP code used as the search origin. Each dealership comes back with its distance in miles from this ZIP.

## `radius` (type: `integer`):

Search radius in miles around the ZIP code. Use a large value (e.g. 6000) to sweep nationwide.

## `inventory_type` (type: `string`):

Which inventory to search when discovering dealerships. Choose 'New' to find franchised new-car dealers.

## `make` (type: `string`):

Optional make slug (e.g. honda, toyota, land-rover) to return only dealerships currently advertising that make. Leave empty for all makes.

## `limit` (type: `integer`):

Stop once this many distinct dealerships have been collected (1-2000).

## `max_pages` (type: `integer`):

Safety bound on how many result pages to read while discovering dealerships.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings for the run. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results, especially for sites that limit non-US or datacenter traffic. Optional - leave off to run directly.
