## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Expedia Hotel Destination Scraper

Turns any free-text place name into Expedia's canonical destination (region) entities. For
each match you get Expedia's region id (gaiaId) — the value every downstream Expedia hotel
search needs — along with the region type, coordinates, airport codes and country details.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `query` | `las vegas` | Free-text place, hotel or point of interest to resolve. |
| `lob` | `HOTELS` | Product bias: `HOTELS`, `FLIGHTS`, `CARS`, or `CRUISES`. |
| `limit` | `10` | Maximum region matches to return (1–50). |
| Proxy configuration | US proxy on | Optional. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results. |

### Output

Each result is one Expedia region entity. Example record:

```json
{
    "query": "las vegas",
    "gaia_id": "2008",
    "type": "CITY",
    "full_name": "Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America",
    "short_name": "Las Vegas",
    "latitude": 36.17006,
    "longitude": -115.141376,
    "country_name": "United States",
    "country_code": "US",
    "airport_code": "LAS",
    "airport_id": "6139100",
    "raw": { ... }
}
```

### Notes

- Runs with empty input (defaults to `las vegas`).
- Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results.
- Please review the site's Terms of Service and use results responsibly.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

Free-text place to resolve, e.g. 'las vegas', 'paris', 'maui', or a hotel/POI name. Returned as Expedia region entities with their gaiaId.

## `lob` (type: `string`):

Which Expedia product the typeahead is biased for. HOTELS returns cities, neighborhoods and POIs; FLIGHTS/CARS bias toward airports.

## `limit` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of region matches to return for the query.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings for the run. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results, especially for sites that limit non-US or datacenter traffic. Optional — leave off to run directly.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "query": "las vegas",
  "lob": "HOTELS",
  "limit": 10,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```
