## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Job Listings Scraper

Scrapes publicly available job listings by keyword and location from public job-search browse pages.

### Input

| **Field**             | **Default**         | **Description**                                                                                                 |
| :-------------------- | :------------------ | :-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `query`               | `software engineer` | Job title or keyword used to search job listings.                                                               |
| `location`            | `""`                | City and state, e.g. `"Austin, TX"`. Empty = nationwide.                                                        |
| `nationwide_fallback` | `true` | If a location-specific browse page is unavailable, use the nationwide feed and filter results by location text. |
| `max_results`         | `20`                | Maximum number of records to return (1–500).                                                                    |

The Actor runs with empty input, defaulting to **software engineer** jobs nationwide.

### Output

One record is returned for each job listing:

```json
{
  "job_id": "dCMqP5rQB7ezN_pB4MHD_w",
  "title": "Senior Software Engineer",
  "company": "WeInfuse",
  "location": "Austin, TX",
  "work_setting": "On-site",
  "salary": "$135K - $170K/yr",
  "salary_min": 135000.0,
  "salary_max": 170000.0,
  "badges": ["Quick apply"],
  "snippet": "We're not rockstars or ninjas, just a team of developers…",
  "job_url": "https://www.example.com/job/...",
  "company_url": "https://www.example.com/company/...",
  "search_query": "software engineer",
  "search_location": "Austin, TX",
  "raw": {
    "..."
  }
}
```

#### Salary fields

`salary_min` and `salary_max` are parsed from the salary information displayed on the listing.

For example:

`$135K - $170K/yr`

becomes:

```text
salary_min: 135000
salary_max: 170000
```

When a listing does not publish salary information, these fields are returned as `null`.

### Data Source

The Actor collects information from publicly accessible job-listing browse pages.

No API key or user account is required.

Location-specific pages generally use **city + state** combinations such as:

```text
Austin, TX
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
```

A state-only or city-only location may not have a corresponding browse page. When a requested browse page is unavailable, the Actor can use the nationwide feed and filter results using the location text.

Some keyword and location combinations may also be unavailable. When `nationwide_fallback` is enabled, the Actor automatically attempts the nationwide source instead.

### Features

- Search jobs by keyword
- Filter by city and state
- Nationwide job search
- Automatic nationwide fallback
- Configurable result limit
- Salary extraction and normalization
- Company information
- Job location
- Work setting when available
- Listing badges
- Original listing URL
- Raw parsed card data

### Request Handling

The source website uses automated traffic protection. The Actor therefore uses conservative request pacing and retry handling.

High-volume or sustained scraping may encounter temporary access challenges. Residential proxies may improve reliability for larger runs.

### Important Notes

- Data is collected from publicly accessible pages.
- Job listing availability and fields may change over time.
- Employment type is not necessarily available in every listing.
- Salary information is only provided when published on the source listing.
- Some listings may disappear or change after collection.
- Users are responsible for complying with applicable laws, website terms, and robots policies when using the collected data.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

Job title or keyword to search for, e.g. "software engineer", "registered nurse", "truck driver". It is converted into a ZipRecruiter browse slug such as /Jobs/Software-Engineer.

## `location` (type: `string`):

Location as "City, ST", e.g. "Austin, TX". ZipRecruiter only publishes browse pages for city+state pairs; a state alone ("Texas") or an unknown pair falls back to the nationwide feed filtered on this text. Leave empty for nationwide.

## `nationwide_fallback` (type: `boolean`):

When the requested location has no dedicated ZipRecruiter browse page, scrape the nationwide feed and filter it on the location text instead. Turn this off to return no records rather than approximate ones.

## `max_results` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of job records to return. ZipRecruiter serves 20 jobs per browse page; the actor walks numbered pages until this many are collected (up to 25 pages).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings for the run. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results, especially for sites that limit non-US or datacenter traffic. Optional — leave off to run directly.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "query": "software engineer",
  "location": "Austin, TX",
  "nationwide_fallback": true,
  "max_results": 20,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true,
    "apifyProxyCountry": "US"
  }
}
