## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## SimplyHired Job Scraper

Scrapes job listings from [SimplyHired](https://www.simplyhired.com) by keyword and
location.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `query` | `software engineer` | Job title, skill or keyword (the "What" field). |
| `location` | `""` | City, state, ZIP or "Remote" (the "Where" field). Empty = nationwide. |
| `job_type` | `""` | Employment-type filter: `full-time`, `part-time`, `contract`, `permanent`, or empty for any. |
| `max_results` | `20` | Maximum records to return (1–500). 20 jobs per page. |

The actor runs with empty input, defaulting to "software engineer" nationwide.

### Output

One record per job listing:

```json
{
  "job_key": "v9ad5IPb_GBh1JUwV0cuthZLOIOF_e2m7zeuxsZcnU_fIKtGmu_RSw",
  "title": "GPU Architecture Engineer - New College Grad 2026",
  "company": "NVIDIA",
  "location": "Austin, TX",
  "salary": "$124,000 - $241,500 a year",
  "job_types": ["Full-time"],
  "remote_attributes": [],
  "benefits": [],
  "requirements": ["Computer Science", "Doctor of Philosophy", "Python", "Entry level"],
  "snippet": "Develop tools to validate performance models and verify functional models…",
  "company_rating": 4.2,
  "sponsored": false,
  "indeed_apply": false,
  "date_posted": "2026-07-22T02:03:52Z",
  "job_url": "https://www.simplyhired.com/job/v9ad5IPb_GBh1JUwV0cuthZLOIOF_e2m7zeuxsZcnU_fIKtGmu_RSw",
  "company_page_url": "https://www.simplyhired.com/browse-jobs/companies/Nvidia",
  "search_query": "python developer",
  "search_location": "Austin, TX",
  "raw": { "…": "the untouched SimplyHired job object" }
}
```

`raw` carries the original SimplyHired payload so no field is lost.

### Data source and auth

Public search pages at `https://www.simplyhired.com/search?q=…&l=…`. No API key,
no account. Salary is only present when the employer published one, and
`date_posted` is derived from the listing's `dateOnIndeed` timestamp.

### Caveats

SimplyHired is a consumer site with bot protection; requests are Chrome-impersonated
and paced (~0.8 s between pages), and the actor retries across impersonation
profiles. Heavy or sustained use may still be rate-limited or blocked. Respect
SimplyHired's Terms of Service and robots policy, and keep request volumes modest.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

Job title, skill or keyword to search for, e.g. "python developer", "registered nurse", "warehouse". This is the SimplyHired "What" field.

## `location` (type: `string`):

City, state, ZIP or "Remote" — the SimplyHired "Where" field, e.g. "Austin, TX", "Chicago, IL", "90210". Leave empty to search nationwide.

## `job_type` (type: `string`):

Optional employment-type filter, applied through SimplyHired's own job-type facet. Choose "Any" for no filter.

## `max_results` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of job records to return. SimplyHired serves 20 jobs per page; the actor follows result cursors until this many are collected.
