## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## USAspending Federal Award Scraper

Collects US federal contract, grant and loan awards from USAspending.gov, the
official record of federal spending. Search by keyword, award type, recipient
state and date range and get the award ID, amount, awarding agency, industry
(NAICS) and product/service (PSC) classification — optionally enriched with the
recipient company's UEI, DUNS, registered address, parent company and business
categories. A direct way to build lists of active federal contractors in any
industry or state.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword | *(empty)* | Free-text term matched against recipient names and award descriptions (e.g. `roofing`, `IT services`, `Lockheed`). Empty = the largest awards of the chosen type. |
| Award type | `contracts` | Contracts, grants, loans, direct payments, or indefinite-delivery vehicles. |
| Recipient state | *(empty)* | Two-letter state code of the recipient's registered address (e.g. `TX`). Empty = all states. |
| Awards active since | *(empty)* | Earliest date in the window, `YYYY-MM-DD`. Empty = the last two years; earliest supported is `2007-10-01`. |
| Enrich with recipient company details | `true` | Adds UEI, DUNS, registered address, parent company and business categories per company. |
| Max results | `50` | Maximum number of award records to return, largest amount first. |
| Proxy configuration | Apify Proxy on | Optional. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results. |

### Output

One row per award, with the full source payload kept under `raw`.

```json
}
```

### Notes

- Runs with empty input — it returns the largest federal contracts of the last
  two years.
- `recipient_parent_name` is the parent recorded for the company in the federal
  register. Many companies are recorded as their own parent, so it often
  equals `recipient_name`.
- `place_of_performance_city` is empty for awards performed statewide or
  nationwide (common for grants), where the source records no city.
- Turn off recipient enrichment for a much faster run when you only need award
  rows; company UEI, address and business categories come from that step.
- Data comes from a public US government source. Enable a US-based proxy for the
  most reliable results.
- Provided for research and lead-research use; check the source's terms before
  redistributing bulk extracts.

# Actor input Schema

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Free-text term matched against recipient names and award descriptions (e.g. 'roofing', 'IT services', 'Lockheed'). Leave empty to return the largest awards of the chosen type.

## `award_type` (type: `string`):

Which family of federal awards to search: contracts, grants, loans, direct payments, or indefinite-delivery vehicles.

## `recipient_state` (type: `string`):

Two-letter US state code of the recipient company's registered address (e.g. 'TX', 'CA'). Leave empty for all states.

## `start_date` (type: `string`):

Earliest date in the search window, as YYYY-MM-DD. Awards active on or after this date are returned. Leave empty for the last two years; the earliest supported date is 2007-10-01.

## `enrich_recipients` (type: `boolean`):

When enabled, each award is enriched with the recipient company's UEI, DUNS, registered address, parent company and business categories. Slower — one extra lookup per unique company.

## `max_results` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of award records to return. Results are paged 100 per request, largest award amount first.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Proxy settings for the run. Enable a US-based proxy for the most reliable results, especially for sites that limit non-US or datacenter traffic. Optional — leave off to run directly.
